Hi, I am a total noob here, but I have been lurking for the last few months or so. I never have needed advice until now. Yes it is yet ANOTHER which saw question. I have found 3 saws, I will explain what I know about each, and I would appreciate your opinions on them, and whether or not I should make the buy and your reasons for or against. Ready?
Here goes:
Saw #1: Stihl 034av. It says electronic stopping or something on the plate as well. I have spoken to the owner and he has had this saw sitting around for a while. It appears to be in very good condition, and he said it fires right up on the 3rd pull after sitting for a couple years. I have the pictures, and will post them after work. He said the kill switch isn't working, but I don't think that would be too much to worry about. He also said he has never done any work to it (maintenance or otherwise) this has me worried. He just puts mix in it and gets down.
Asking price: 175.00
Saw#2: Stihl ms360. I have a picture of this saw as well, and it appears to be in decent shape as well. Currently has an 18" bar, but has been ran with a 24".
Asking price: 250.00
Saw #3: Husqvarna 372 xp. I know this saw is way bigger than the others, and also probably way more than I will ever need. The owner did not send me a picture, but says it has no more than 10 hours use. From what I can figure out, it is around 3 years old.
Asking price: 400.00 (which is pretty much out of my range)
So there you have it. Let me know what you think and why. Please help out a fat kid from N.California!
Thanks guys.

I would go after the 034av. The 360 and the 034 are cousins in the Stihl line-up.....

Mike

The 372xp sounds like a good deal. The 034 just sounds like it could be a money pit. I would hope he's a least cleaned the air filter and changed the fuel filter.

I agree. The 372 is a tried a true workhorse of a saw. Ten hours isn't squat.

If I could get a 372xp w/ 10 hours for $400 I'd be all over that

DANG RIGHT!!. Thats just about broke in. It may be more saw then you'll "think" you need but when you do need a big saw count on it being there for ya.

The 372xp is a great saw. If I could own only one saw, it would be second on the top ten saws to own list right behind the ms440. Asking price of $400 is about ½ of what they are now going for new. If it was in good shape, I would pick it up. With a 20” bar, the saw is just perfect for firewood and it can easily pull a 24” bar if you ever needed a bigger saw. Great antivibe and excellent air filtration. Parts are reasonable and readily available on line. One of huskys best. Eat ramen for a week and go for it. Cant help you with the other saws you listed.

372

You live in N. Cal, big timber up there. Get the 372, buy a 32" B/C for them big old logs everyone passes on. That is a good all-rounder' saw for up there. Heck, 372 PARTS SAWS go 200.00 or more.

Okay, so I am gonna make an attempt at posting some pictures. The fIrst 3 are the 034 for 175.00 I think I was having my chain jerked on the Husqvarna. I have emailed the guy several times now, and never a reply. I guess it is between the 034 and the ms260. Anyway, I'm gonna met the guy with the 034 tomorrow morning and check the compression. Heres the pics, and I saw a post where a guy wanted to see your cutting buddies so I'm including her as well. In the pose she saying the 2 of us can really get it done. Let me know what you guys think.

What kind of compression should I expect (or hope) to see from either the 034, or the ms360? Here's another hottie for you guys to check out!

120+ anything under and you should throw some rings in. Different saws need more then others someone else may better assist you with the #'s.
