It dose not matter if you get a 32" or a 36" cuz generally when you have a tree that needs a bar that long you need to cut from both sides anyway..

I meant Tzed250 has the best pics, must be one of those didital SLR's.

oldsaw, how well does your MS-660 pull the 42" bar> Any mods on that bad boy?:chainsawguy:

It likes a 36 a WHOLE lot better. The 42 is my milling bar, but when faced with an oak on the edge of a ditch (5 foot drop off into a ditch, quite steep), I pulled out the 42 to stay on the uphill side. Notice it's running skip. Worked well though, took a while, but thats a lot of wood getting removed from the cut. It was a white oak, so not a real easy pull.

Just opened the muffler up a bit, actually the previous owner did, I just had to fix it right, since his mods had worked loose. It's a "semi-retired" BC logging saw. Looks tough, but works well. She may be ugly, but her heart is in the right place. She's a runner.

you are right. youl be buckn big trees from both sides with both bar lenghts. and for sure felling from both sides.

ive found the 32" cuts lots of wood it knocks off lots of rds from one side of the tree while bucking. id like the 36" because when buckn firewood it be knockn off a few more rds before havn to cut from both sides.

i tried talkn my wife into running the 026 to finish my cuts on the other side but even that im leary about because were talking big rds and shes small.

but yes these bars do the samething the 32" might even cut as much wood if big dawgs arent mounted on the saw, wich wouldnt need to be for most cutting. im going to.
ive got a set of 5 point big dawgs that will be modded as short as possible for my 440. husky big dawgs eat up bar even more

Been a while since I originally posted. I decided to go with a 36" bar. Since I'm already set up for 3/8" and 0.050" I decided to get the bar the same. I ordered it two weeks ago and just checked today to see if it was in. The dealer told me it was back ordered. I'm heading home for the holiday to north central PA, which is also where my dealer is. I was hoping it would be in by Friday. I have plans this weekend to cut firewood on my pap's property and I've been eyeing up a few big trees that blew down a few months ago, hoping to try out the new bar on them. I am considering switching gauge and/ or pitch so I can get my bar in time. I don't have any chains made up for it yet, so I am open to whatever I can get. The dealer is going to call me back tomorrow after he checks with Northeast Stihl to see what is available or if my bar will be in. I'll be pretty bummed if I can't get it by this weekend. I was actually pretty shocked it was on backorder. Even though it is a big bar for the northeast, I would think they would be the one thing they would have. I have my finger's crossed everything falls into place and Friday I'll be making chips fly with a new 36" bar.

That bar is in stock at most dealers in this area.

That doesn't make me feel any better. The orignal bar I was going to get (36" 3/8" 0.050" with 11 nose sprocket teeth) was apparently unavailable, or at least the part number out of last year's Stihl catalog was not valid. So, I just switched to the same set up but the bar had 13 nose sprocket teeth. I'm wondering if that is the hold up. I live around Pittsburgh now and the dealers I've checked with here don't have one in stock.

Would you recommend a 36" Stihl .50guage or Oregon power match .63guage?

I got about the same deal on both with 2 chains.
Thanks

The reason you're prolly waitin' is becasue i don't think 36" Stihl bars come in .050 gauge. Only in .063. You can only get .050 up through 32"... then it's all .063.

This is form the eBay add.

Up for auction is a brand new Stihl 36" ES Professional Chainsaw Bar 3/8 050 and 2 brand new Stihl 36" 3/8 050 Chains 114 drive links. Buyer has choice of RMC (semi chisel), RSC (full chisel) or RSF (full skip) chain with order.

WTF?

What chain out of those would you recommend? Probably RSC even tho i cut all hardwood. I have all Oregon chains with exception of 2.

I gave the dealer a part number right out of the Stihl catalog. 3/8" pitch and 0.050" for a 36" bar. Northeast Stihl even sent the dealer a slip with their last two shipments saying the bar is on back order. The only thing I can think of is that the 13 tooth nose sprocket bar may not be as popular as the 11 tooth nose sprocket bar, which the catalog number is no longer valid for.

Hmm... I have never heard of a 36" .050 bar... maybe I'm just delusional.

Plus... I wouldn't trust an ebay or a craigslist ad. If your dealer says he can get it... then get one mang... :)
