So after reading a bunch of posts here about how great the fiskars axe is I thought it might be a good tool to have. My citibank card gives me rewards points so i cashed in a few of them and it arrived promptly in the mail. Since I have a gas splitter, the axe just sat in my tool box in the truck for a few weeks before I tried it out...ran out of gas in the splitter and only had like 4 rounds to go so I broke it out. That was about three months ago and I still haven't put more gas in the splitter! Using this tool makes splitting the "old fashioned way" fun. So far I've got about 3 cords split with it and only 5 crotches I couldn't get to split sitting over by the splitter waiting for the gas can. Really brings home the fact that the right tool for the job makes a world of difference. Just wondering if anyone else has had the same or similar experience.

Yep, same experience. I haven't fired up the wood splitter since I bought the Fiskars.

I did go to my father-in-laws house for Christmas. I get restless if I sit around too much, and by day 4 I was ready for some action. We had a couple of trees fall (poplars) the day before so I went out and started bucking them up. My FIL dragged out his 8lb maul and I just groaned.

Got one tree split up, starting to get tired, and he goes "oh yeah, my neighbor said we could borrow his splitter anytime". Drug that over and split the rest with the gas splitter. Man was I wishing for that Fiskars!

Yup!

It almost feels like you are cheating. I found that all of my pieces are now smaller because it is so easy to pop them that the extra swings are a pleasure.

No complaints here.

Stay safe!

Same thing happened to me, but only with this one.

I pulled the pull rope out of the splitter weeks ago, still aint put it back in. I really like it, but my buddy hates it and would rather swing his 8lb maul.

I'm about 6'3" in my steel toes. The Fiskars is just too short to be safe.

I'm 6'4" in bare feet, and I thought the same thing, didn't buy one for a long time for just that reason. Now it's all I use. Use a block to get the split up, get your hands low to release the swing. But that's just me, I'm not encouraging anybody to do something he feels is unsafe.

I hate to say it but I'm pretty disappointed with the fiskars. I love the pro split for in the woods driving wedges etc, but the 4 .lb super is kinda overrated in my opinion.
I would guess though that I am only splitting BIG stuff. 20" or less doesn't get split. The rounds over about 16" just laugh at it.
Gas splitter or a wedge and sledge does a better job on the BIG stuff.

It's a great splitter for 12" stuff, but over that I'm just not sold.

I split almost nothing but 20"+ stuff. There is something to be said for technique. I'm just sayin'.

After reading all the posts on the Fiskar I ordered the 7854. That is the 4# 28 inch one. I have an 8# maul I use now. I am looking forward to trying it out. Hope it is as good as everyone says!
