Can someone post pictures of this fix .........

.

This is what I recommend!

Exactly. Same as TRI955's 2153.

For those who may not be aware, a number of tank assemblies were cast with the tank vent closed off. So essentially they didn't have a vent. I've seen it on a half dozen 350's, two 2153's and this is the first 346. The fix is real simple, but it can drive you nuts trying to find it.

Add another 350 to the list. I bought a "parts saw" from a dealer that fried the top end for the fuel tank. Drove me nuts figuring out that my new fuel tank was my problem. I'm guessing that's also what seized up the saw the tank came from.

Im really surprised that anybody would actually post about a problem with these saws ...........Most get swept under the carpet for protection........;)

Another BS post from you, as expected - issues happen to all saw models, the difference is the frequency of them, how they are handled, and if they are fatal. :biggrinbounce2::laugh::laugh:

Thank you Spike for the info ............It will be helpful to other members here on AS.............:cheers:

Aprox 9 saws at one dealer ..........I think there are 4000+ dealers in the USA ......Interesting that very little mention here on AS ...........:confused:

Interesting! I may have to keep an eye out for this, but I clean my saws fairly regularly!

We've had more than enough trash posts of late Saw Troll, pretty sure nothing ill was meant by that post.

I call "not BS" But I will agree that all saws do have some problems. I have seen more than a half a dozen of these myself. They will become fatal if not fixed.

This flaw is from the factory. Not a cleaning issue. But it is always good to keep them clean.
And I agree no ill will meant by Ultra.

Sounds like it's bad enough to talk about...

the 350 is subject to the same service bullentin as the 345/357/359 as it pertains to the partition. the plastic clamp does not do the job and allows etra air and a lean condition. a heavy duty pipe clamp and a razor knife will solve the problem.

Thanks, and that's why I shared it.

Let's face it, a lot of guys just can't deal with reality here. Every brand stubs their toe now and then, but I don't see why egos and protecting the sanctity of ones chosen brand should get in the way of helping each other out here on the site. But it sure does happen here. Guys are afraid to discuss a problem, or a known solution, because fans of other makes will jump on it. Granpatractor's pic of the 5100 in this thread is an example. (Especially considering that the 5100 has been the lead player in more than a few threads over the past year) But I could care less. Those of us who are dealers have access to a lot of info that can be helpful to an awful lot of members, and we should be willing to share it.

You know what all saw brands have in common? Service bulletins!

Your math is a little off base though in what it implies. I buy a lot of saws at once; often a pallet or more. So, if there is a serial run with a problem such as the tank casting deal, I could get a bunch of them all at once. Those 350's all came in on the same order. Never saw that problem before or since.

The switch from the plastic to metal clamp for the intake boot was done 4 or 5 years ago. The metal clamp is way better, but it can be a pain to close it when building a saw. BOING!!! and then try it again.

BTW, when putting the clamp on any of these saws, (346 and 357 saw families), you don't want to actually clamp it until the cylinder is seated on the case. That is the only way to have the partition wall fit properly against the crankcase. If you clamp it before you put the cylinder on, you may have to jam it in there which could distort the boot.

I agree spike. All brands have some problems and too many times on AS, somebody sees a problem on one saw and they think that all those models are bad. Not so.
I was just needling jazz a bit. He was up at our GTG and we got to know him. I actually had his 346 in my hands.( wasn't having this problem or I would have fixed it)

I see my 2156 still has the plastic clamp. I'll have to have a chat with my local Jonsered dealer before it goes "BOING".

Dolmar's blow up.

Sad to hear that someone who knew about the problem wood not spread the word here to owners of 346's. There should be a stickie for bulletin postings.

Further more, it's funny how the one's who back up the 346 are not here to talk about this crazy problem. Don't get me wrong, those of you who saw Tom's 346 vid know what that saw can do.

Here's my last punch.

Pulling a 3/8 8 pin rim:jawdrop:

...and it's not blowed up yet:)
