Maybe a little bit of CAD still holding on after last week's purchases of the 440 and CS370, but I ran across an add for a MS 250 in good shape except for a leaking gas tank vent. Asking price is $100.. Go or no go?

Snag it.

Got one that has had the living crap beat out of it.
You couldn't buy it for 100 bucks, it's still got more than that left in it.

Ain't the fastest, not the best handling, air filters cost an arm and a leg, it's got the damn flippy caps to boot.

But it gets the job done every time and dosn't mind getting abused.

For 100 bucks, snag it, and run it to death.

Stay safe!

Only hard to work on if you dont work on saws........

.

Well, as you very well know, I never claimed to be a saw mechanic - rather the oppsite - but I do maintenance on other peoples saws when they ask me, and it suits me - those saws (250c's in this case) are by far the worst I have ever worked on, and they look like crap into the bargain.....:censored:

Sure they last a while - but they are not nice to work with, or on......:greenchainsaw:

They start, run, and cut almost as fast as a 260, and weigh about the same.

Never had to replace anything but a pull rope, and a couple spurs/bearings.

lol!!
I don't want to dig into it either...no need to.

For a 100 dollar knockabout saw, there are a LOT worse options out there.:D

Sure - just lack of owners pride......

To some that doesn't matter, but to me it does!

i object.

the 025/MS250 is SIMPLE to work on. seriously, you'd have to be missing your thumbs to call these clamshells "not nice to work on".

i have rebuilt my 20 year old 021 (same design) and it is trivial work. if you have any semblance of mechanical aptitude it's a piece of cake.

That $100 will be money well spent, IMO, for all the positive reasons listed so far. Well, you could ALWAYS offer $75. Daddy taught me never to just plop down the asking price folding green. But $100 is a very good price for that saw in excellent condition.

Some owners take pride in a saw that they got on the cheap but that cuts great, even if it has an orange rear handle. :D

Was also going to mention (but forgot), that a simple muffler mod and retune probably will wake that saw right up. Sure took my old MS290 out of sleep mode.

If you do a search for muff mod you'll find plenty of info to tackle this simple job.

Buy it. Everybody needs a cheap saw to beat the snot out of. The air filters are terrible, but the rest of it will last a long time for a 100$ outlay. What can ya buy for a hundred bucks anyway? Tank of fuel in the truck is almost that much.......:spam:.........just sayin'

Doesn't it have a fixed carb. Meaning there is no adjustment for the high side? I would not buy a saw. There is no need to spend more money on a new carb thats adjustable. When the saw should have had one in the first place!

Just my .02!

The 250 I just bought IS adjustable.

I have only had mine a little over a week, but so far so good.

Used it all day this past Friday and did everything I asked of it. Cut 13" hickory just fine, along with oak, birch and cherry wood. Started easy as could be all day. Chain was dull by the end of the day, but that was probably caused by my inexperience and trying to saw the ground a few times. :)

I couldn't be happier with my purchase.

Thanks for all the responses. Sounds like its 50:50 yeah or neah. I think I'm going to swallow my CAD desires right now and hold out for a MS 260 Pro. Anyone know where's a good deal to be had on a MS 260 Pro? :greenchainsaw:

They all do not have a fixed high jet, I just sold one for $125.00 about a week ago. I paid $75.00, cut a lot of my firewood with it for this winter, never had to do a thing to it except fill it up and file the chain. I only sold it because I wanted to modd the muff, and it was without an adjustable carb...cad stricken. :dizzy:
