That is a wild looking popup. What did the compression make it up to?

Wow, that is some good compression. The video was about like the 7900 I did. It would hang from a rope like that. It had 170 lbs at 3000 ft which was almost 190 at sea level. I had to remember to use the decompression on it.

Interesting work Brad. Two quick concerns: is the asymmetry going to cause problems with the balance of the piston? Also, is there much material left where you've thinned it out? I'm sure you already asked these questions, but I'm just curious.

The safe rule of thumb is to leave .100" crown thickness.

I'm not worried about that small amount of imbalance on the one side.

I wouldn't be concerned about the offset in the popup in the least. Just look at a race piston in a automotive engine, if anything would cause a piston to be subjected to lateral thrust this would do it.

Here is a picture of a boat motor piston...

Very nice machine work. I take my hat off to the guy running the milling machine. The video of the saw running a bit was nice as well. To hear it
purr was great. Now you're committed to post the video when you put it
back into wood and let the chips fly! Thanks for posting.

Hey Brad,

Is this the same 440 that you said you liked just the way it was and that you weren't going to mod it?????

Looking good though!

Now don't you be puttin' words in my mouth, partner:greenchainsaw: I said that I could live with it as was, but would still port it someday. That day was a couple weeks ago:cheers:

Im curious as to why no BB? As easy as it is, and as much power them suckers make, I guess im just wondering why you chose to stay with 50mm OEM top over a 52mm OEM top? You had mentioned fuel economy, but I just throw that out the window on a modded saw anyhow.

I just decided to use what I've got. It's not a race saw, and I was impressed with it stock, so I figured why spend the extra dough. I was also very impressed with the one I ported for Stipes. I can always replace it later if I want more:clap:

I havent done up a 50 mm version yet. Im curious as to your final thoughts on the 50mm vs. 52mm on the 044 chassis. I have an extra 50mm jug layin around, I might just have to do one up as well......
