Does anybody besides the count have a made in china saw? Specificly the knock off ms 070 and how in the heck do you get one shipped over? they all say minimum count of at least 50 times 220 bucks wow thats alot of coin. I wonder if 105cc holds up in made in china. My daughter has a go cart that came with a made in china before i snaped the connecting rod in it which led to a 5hp briggs being mounted on it, but anyway does anybody have that knock off stihl????

it's a peach to get it shipped over.. the best thing you can do is find a guy that has all the import paper work sorted out and buy him a beer!

hell, i wanted to try the 090 knock off..

also FYI the engines at harbor fright are honda clones i have two and i show them no mercy, i ran one on a gas/ diesel mix because i got it for free, i couple times i thought the head was going to come off bemuse it was knocking to hard from the diesel

I have yet to purchase anything from china that I felt was up to par on quality, It always breaks within it's first couple of uses or does not work at all. Don't think for a second the china knock off is going to be anything like a real stihl.

China,I am guilty but I was under the impression that "Makita" was made in Germany.Well I was wrong. What I purchased was a 1/4 drive impact driver.I really enjoy using this tool, but if I had shopped around I may have purchased may have purchased a "Milwaukee", or "DeWalt".The driver works perfectly and has a three year warranty (1 year on the battery) Any whoo, this is still a great working tool, Ken

My buddy has a Chinese quad and we beat it like a rented mule. He keeps up with us on our Japanese models. We have had a lot of moments of "Hold my beer Y'all ain't gonna believe this " The repairs that he has done is the frame has cracked twice, and the electrical is a gong show (green is ground, it ain't house wiring!) Always worth the fun factor to kill it for a few bucks.

I have a few chinese saws - all still running and working the way they should. The quality isn't as good ans most brand name saws, but you can't expect that if you are only paying 10-20% of the price.

You can buy single chainsaws from China from sites similar to ebay. Here is a 070 copy that includes free shipping from china http://www.aliexpress.com/store/300007/200244074-306940221/Gasoline-Chain-Saw-STIHL-MS070-4-8KW-36-GUIDE-BAR.html

At least they make no secret about where it is made, but I wonder if Stihl actually is involved in the project, since it looks like there are proper Stihl logos on the saw?

I've only used chinese saws so far, a Ryobi RCS 3535A and a dock-off homebrand copy of a McCulloch 3818AV, you can defaintly tell thier made in china. It might look like a stihl but there will be no distinguishing features like the side chain tensioner, integrated choke/on/off switch or the compensator, it'll be your basic chainsaw underneith the paint job.

I have a strong suspicion the Ryobi RCS 3535A is a cheap rip-off of the Stihl MS 211 C-BE but without the ergostart.

What would you choose? :p

Have you been into any of them? What kind of quality is the p/c, forging marks and power? Mainly wondering if Troll might be right about Stihl copy rights and such.

Sad times my friend.

Makita power tools were made in Japan for a long time. They bought the Dolmar Chainsaw line, and I think that's why you were under the impression that Makita's power tools were made in Germany (the chainsaws still are made in Germany). I have an ancient made-in-Japan 9.6/12v Makita cordless drill that's been giving great service for over a decade (it was a wedding gift from a good friend!). Even the original NiCad packs I got with it are still going strong. Amazing. Now, their stuff is made in china like most other power tools. Don't know where DeWalt has their stuff made now...

My Milwaukee 1/4" M12 power screwdriver was made in china. Sigh. It's a great tool, and I use it all the time. Still, I'm more than a little pissed that the M12 power tools aren't made in the USA like my Super Sawzall was...

I haven't had to open any of them, but I plan on porting some of them when I get a chance. P/C quality is pretty good, from the outside at least. I will take some pics when I take them apart. Power is usually a bit down on chinese saws, but I find thats because they are tuned to a max of 11000rpm in most cases.

Yes I am sure there are copyright and trademark infringements, especially when they come in a Stihl/Husqvarna box and have "made in Germany/Sweden" labels.

i would say stihl has to have something to do with it because of them using the logo..that is serious copy right infringements

I'm not sure stihl has anything to do with these products, because some chinese manufactures remove the labels and paint the saw different colors when shipping to certain countries.

I can't imagine Italy are much better in terms of quality. A lot of the crap I see at box stores like B&Q (Home Depot in the US) comes from Italy.

i was wondering about swapping a quality lower end in the case, do you think the crank from a actual stihl will work in the china made?? And will the cylinder bolt pattern march up if you go stihl to end??? do they use oregon bars??

Yes, as far as I know most of the stihl/husqvarna copies are pretty much exact copies as the are made up of the aftermarket parts you see advertised on ebay etc. They use no name chinese bars - a bit softer than the brand name bars but seem to hold up alright.

In past life having done business in China/Pacicific Rim and traveling there several times, I can assure you Stihl/Husky has nothing to do with it.
The Chinese will without hesitation violate any trademark/copyright laws in a heart beat. It's one of the biggest problems legitimate companies fight everyday. Millions of dollars of counterfiet goods are shipped to the US and Europe every year. Everything from fake Rolexs, Tag-Heur Watches, Polo and Hilfiger clothing, purses, even fake Realtree and Mossy Oak clothing.
When you are in China and go to the traveler/visitor shopping districts they are full of fakes, you can virtually get any label you want sewn on clothing, North Face/Columbia/Carhartt etc.
It's just some chinaman trying to make a buck on Stihl and Huskies reputation.

so your saying they are made up of the parts, they didn't just happen across the old dies or casts and start making there own pieces with "china" steel.

So, Ducati motorcycles and Ferrari/Lamoborgini cars must be junk too?

Tecomec used to make P/C assys for stihl, those old stihls are junk? (they still make parts for Ducati).

Campagnolo and Gippeme makes junk bike parts.....

Italian bicycles, like Bianchi, Derosa, Colnago, Tommaso, Masi, ..........all scrap metal

P.S. How long before we see a Chi-Com car win a formula one race or the tour de france?

P.P.S. I forgot about those crudely made Moto Guzzi cycles
