Well I missed the PNW GTG......................but I did get another Mac today. While out doing non-fun stuff, I stopped at a yard sale and picked up a nice runner 10-10 Auto. Matches my 'new' SP-81 well. Same style black top cover, and same style 'round' clutch cover with the 'Mack in the box' emblem. Grey/black 16" Mac-10 labled bar. Should get some pics of the pair up tomorrow after I replace the starter rope and rebuild the carb on the SP-81.

You want pics of me missing the PNW GTG? Guess I should have had the Mrs shoot a pic or two of me on Thursday afternoon..........standing next to my smoking, rattling truck while holding the McCulloch 650 gear drive and downing a large whiskey on the rocks...:dizzy:

J/K Warped. I'm still a bit grumpy. I'll get those pics up soon. Might as well shoot a pic of the 650 and 550 on the hood of the truck, as well as a couple of shots of the two newcomers (SP-81 and 10-10 Auto).

Aaron - I know better than to push buttons at this time .... LOL .... I'll post pix of my 10-10A when it arrives as well .... I look forward to seeing yours!

P.S. You got a SP-81 too! Lucky devil! I know that feeling!

No worries Ted. It's a rough point, but a minor one compared to what many are going through.

Got the SP-81 Wednesday afternoon...............the day before I left for the trip. Spent a buncha time on Wednesday degreasing it. Was rather cruddy, with oil, dirt, pitch...............and lotsa dog hair. My guess is that John lets his dog(s) ride in the back of the Dodge with the saws...:D

I was given the SP-81 in exchange for doing work on John's Dad's mighty Homelite 750. I enjoy working on a classic monster of a saw (especially a Homelite or McCulloch), and I got a great old Mac for my time. I'll be getting a PM700 from the same source in the near future too.

The SP-81 is missing a couple of screws and needs the starter rope and handle replaced. Needed a good cleaning too. Going to put a carb kit and a new air filter element in it. Has a 28" grey/black "Super Pro" labeled roller nose (not sprocket tip) bar and a good loop of 3/8" chisel (skip). Needs a set of spikes. Has a rim drive drum and a full-wrap handlebar.

The 10-10 Auto has a little bit of corrosion on the rear handle and clutch cover. Everything else looks good. Will just need a cleaning. Has a rim-drive sprocket. Wears a 16" grey/black "Mac-10" labeled hardnose and a loop of Oregon safety chain. That chain will be replaced soon. Also needs a set of spikes.

I got back from Australin last night. Spent today catching up on a few items at work, mowed the yard, put a bar & chain on the 10-10S from Theiroff...that's about it.

Here are two photo's from Australia, the McCulloch corner in Terry Titchners chain saw museum/collection and Terry himself holding his favorite all time McCulloch saw.

Just kidding of course.

Leave again tomorrow for Portugal, France, and Czech Republic. I'll try to stay in touch.

I have one of those..didn't like the way the handle looks without the bottom piece so I borrowed one from another saw and put it on. Not sure why it wasn't included stock on this model since all the mounting holes are there.

Fathers day early a new (old) saws an 895 and a procom 555 mcculloh

Any help with these saws ? ID for years ?, est values ? parts ?

Don't know squat about the 555. The 895 is a fantastic old 103cc gear drive beast of a saw. Same engine as a 795 direct drive. The DSP lever above/behind the muffler is a manual compression release. You need to close it once the saw starts. It's not automatic like the 'button' types we see now. Mid '60s through early '70s saw. What more do you need to know?

Edit:

Just saw pics of your 555. That's a Pro Mac 555. It's one of the later saws in the 10-10 family. Go to Mike Acres site (www.acresinternet.com) and find the PM555 listing in the McCulloch section of the chainsaws index for more info. You had quite an early father's day gifting!

Sigh. It's worth whatever the seller and buyer agree on. That depends on condition, how much you're into it, and how badly the seller wants it.........just like with anything else. I'll give you $20 for it plus shipping...

Typically Mac in those days...change a few odd things and you have a new saw series.

Those Macs may be very common in the US, but they are not so easy to find over here. I like keeping them in their original state, so the one piece handle is a nice "original" feature of this saw.

What's with the angle on the starter?

ProMac 555 came after the ProMac 55. Basically the same displacement as whatever version of the Mac 10-10 was being produced at the time... I think it might have whatever Mcculloch called "anti-vibe" at the time...

My uncle has one, and I've been looking for one to add to my collection. They're pretty rare from what I've seen.

Hey, while I'm thinking of it:

Does anybody have the plastic hand grip insert for a ProMac 700? Mine's missing, chainsawr doesn't seem to have one, and neither does my "auction buddy."

Understood. Nice saw you have. Kinda common over here because they were made in Los Angeles plus the fact that a lot of us never throw anything away. They sell for around $20 at the local flea markets because the owners apparently don't know that there are people who collect old Macs.

pro 555

ya know i havent even cleaned it to attempt a start but it feels like its squeeezing air , and ya whats up with the rope on the bottom ?

here comes the Bad ass saw pics

Its rotated clockwise one notch. Guys who start from the ground like it up, guys who push the saw forward and pull the starter like it near the back or near the bottom, often times they just set the bar on the log and give here a rip. These Mac's let you choose by rotating the starter, also lets you have the trigger in your control, lots of old saws never had a throttle lock or it wasn't used or even broken.
