Rained here overnight so the lawn operations stay parked for the day. Wasn't currently raining when I walked outside so I grabbed the gator and the tw-6 to get the stacks growing and this pile of limbs out of my way. The splits are wild cherry and pin oak. The pile of limbs is maple. Unseen and needed to be unloaded is another pile of maple trunk wood. All together about 4 cords. Here's what I got accomplished before it started to pour. Well, if "nothing" is what you've accomplished today, and you're at work.....?
Man, if'n I was your boss..... :D
Well, it WAS a joke of course. Been here 25 years and own a piece of it, and I do manage to get things done. I'd rather be at home getting real things done, but I can't get paid for that, so I'll keep this job as long as it lasts. That won't be very much longer, and then there won't likely be any more engineering jobs to be had around here, so I guess I'll have more time to do things for no pay.

Ate breakfast, did some dishes, did 2 loads of laundry and then went to the local nature preserve and ran 9.5 miles on the trails. Came home and showered and getting ready to eat a late lunch.

Not Much Accomplished Today

Got up at 3:30 this morning about the usual time for me. Checked my E mail and made a couple posts on our web site before leaving at my usual time of 5:00 AM.

I'm retired but a bunch of us meet at Mc Donalds every morning at 5:00 and shoot the breeze. A couple of us walk 3-miles every morning Monday thru Friday and take Saturday and Sunday off from walking.

Did my 3-miles and came back home and ate a small breakfast and left again at 9:30 for an appointment at the VA Hospital. Just as I thought the doctor said I have a small hernia and is going to operate next Tuesday. So that was the sum of my morning.

Decided to wait until tomorrow to go cut some more wood and haul it home.

Up at 530am. Breakfast and then a 4 mile walk as a volunteer at a local park. Grocery shopping, grass cutting, lunch, leaf raking, firewood stacking, and then it started to rain. Dinner, beer and the Tigers. Middle of the 7th, and Tigers are not looking too good.

Tomorrow, if it doesn't rain, a day of splitting.

well I worked til 5 pm.Came home gathered up a couple of saws and decided to go drop a couple of dead standing trees I noticed while sitting in my deer stand this morning. Since my son was still at the FD, I decided i should call my wife and advise her where and what I was going to be doing. then called my father to see if he would come stand by in case something went wrong. He came up and met me in the field. I had one standing elm with a sassafras leaner to bring down first,I had them down safely by the time he arrived. Then we discussed whether or not the 22 dbh ash was dead or not. no leaves on any limb where the others around still had green leaves.. We decided I should drop some smaller scrubby maples closer to the edge of the field first and limb them out of the way. got those done and I proceeded to make my face cut and then a plunge with the 5100. Note bar was to short I made a plunge behind my hinge and then took the cut towards the trigger, once I was out the other side I walked behind the tree and plunged in and cut the other side back to my trip.. made sure everyone was clear, clipped the trigger and walked away. She fell into the soybean field. I swear i had a perfect hinge.. I wanted to take a photo but my dad made fun of me for bragging about my hinge!LOL. I topped it out and left the limbs , I will use the manure teeth on the loader bucket to push the limbs back into the woods. We were finished due to darkness falling.
I will go back out and buck it up with the kids..and the splitter.

We have 11 dogs. I spent most of the day getting there accommodations ready for winter. Fresh straw, heated water bowls.

Spent the rest of the day working on the combine. If the rain holds off I will start on corn tomorrow.

I still have a lot of wood to split....I am not very good at it....you guys should all come over and show me how it's done......:msp_sneaky:
