Yes, it can be changed out - and nothing other than a carb tuning is needed afterwords.

....but I would want to get rid of that goofy green fuel cap as well!

I have a J-red 2153 with the cat muffler and am going to change it over but I like that goofy green fuel cap because when I'm cutting down a tree and if Al Gore or David Suzuki happen to come strolling by I can point to the green cap and get two thumbs up.

For my 346/2153 saws I used a Husky 350 muffler.
Sure would like to find a good replacement for the Cat 357/2156 mufflers

.

Me too!!! What I''ve been doing on 357-359-2156 is dual porting them outlet on each side of muffler leaving the CAT in place. Use Husky 503-5899-01 Outlet w/screen 503-4056-01. I cut out muff with cutoff wheel on Dremel the size of the opening under outlet. The hole is big enough to get wheel inside to cut out the baffle under the seam. Actually triple port the muff.
The AM tube muff's I cut out the tube and mig (TIG would be better but I don't have one) weld in 1-1" outlet in w/no screen.

The saws are so cheap over here, why not just buy two!

The 2153c was under 500. including tax. The 2153cwh was over 500.

If you look on CL in Vermont a member here has three Jonsereds saws listed. A 2153cwh, 2156cwh and a 2171cwh. All the saws a new, never run. The 2153cwh is a very good deal!

Interesting!
I'm moving away from large muffler openings to smaller holes. For the next muffler for a 2159 I plan on removing the baffel and then add a 5/8's hole with a deflector over it.

I also payed a bit more for my 2153WH than I did for the 346xpg - but it was some years later....

The 2153 is a beauty, but also a mistake - as the handling difference vs. the 346xp is larger than I imagined. For cutting logs in the yard, it doesn't matter though, but it surely does when limbing etc in the woods.

I'm curious what you mean by the handling difference being "larger than imagined". I thought that a CS2153 is a sibling of the 346XP with pretty much the same size, weight and power. Also coming from the same company. What part of the equation are you not liking?
