Ok so about a month ago me and my friend cut and split wood for a lady, she wanted it 22" because she was going to purchase a stove that took a 24" log... well long story short she got a stove that takes 18" logs, now what she wants us to do is unstack all of it and cut it in half so she has 11" logs.. im pretty new to cutting wood, as that time a month ago was my first, and it just seems to me taking each piece of individual split wood would not be an easy or fast task, wont the logs just roll around instead of getting cut? i don't want this to be an excessively long process, any ideas?

It would be tedious, and kinda dangerous, to try to cut those small pieces individually.
You need to get them in some type of tall narrow rack so that your chainsaw's bar can cut down through the stack of them without them being able to move/get sucked into the front end of your saw.
That, or a chop saw. Be careful, no matter how you decide to approach it.
Sounds like a huge pita job.

I would charge big $ for such a pita job.

i was thinking about that rack idea, but i don't know what i could use for one.. and she pays $10/hour..

I would make a n elevated box the width of your bar as high and low as you are comfy with 11" deep fill it up cut down the edge of the box.

At $10 an hour you won't even make your gas money back lol. Personally I would charge her a "pain in the butt fee" to make it worth your while.:msp_tongue:

You cut it to the length she wanted at first. If she wants it cut shorter I hope she is paying for it or I would not do it. It is not you problem to fix for free.

yeah it will be a pita, but she buys our fuel and lunch :tongue2:
It's sounds like a pita, but it's good to see someone that's willing to work for a $, even if it isn't "gravy".
I'm so tired of hearing whiners saying there's no work. Too many in this country have become lazy and expect things to be handed to them. Kids around hear don't think it's worth mowing a lawn for less than $15/hr., and they're friggin' 13 yrs. old !
We used to do it for whatever $ we could get (with Dad's mower and gas ).

so true, i honestly feel there is plenty of jobs hiring, but people that are unemployed are not willing to settle for a job that doesn't pay a lot, or something they don't feel like doing. i know 4 places around me that have a help wanted sign out. but i take whatever cash i can at this point.

Sell the 22" wood to someone who can use it, then cut and split some 18" wood for her. Less work, more money. Just thinking about what she's asking you to do is making my head hurt. I also agree with the point others have made, cutting a bunch of split wood pieces in half with a chainsaw isn't safe. It's the wrong tool for a stupid job.

Good thinking.

yeah i guess i could run that by her, but shes pretty stingy.. and she got the wood that we already cut and split for free off her land so im thinking she might not part with it unless she sells it for a good price. it i all birch that she left on the ground for a year, but birch does not dry well without the bark off or it being split so its not very good wood to burn, i doubt she will get top dollar for it.
