I have inherited these 2 saws and was wanting opnions on which to keep? I cut roughly 6 cords a year for home heating, I have an 038 magnum I keep for bigger stuff but am having a tough time choosing between the 2, any thoughts?

Thanks,Rick

I'd keep the 034 it's in decent shape and I did'nt have room for both. It's the older of the two but is a pro saw with the magnesium case. It's also lighter and better balanced. It's just the better saw. Is it a super?

Yeah...what he said! :cool2:

It is not a super, just the 034 AV, I was using an 028 super, but it was always bogging down in the Hedge and Oak I was cutting, I got lucky with these, I also got an 039, but it seems a little to heavy for an everyday saw.

The 039 is exactly the same weight as the 310 so if weight is an issue........
The 034 is a split cased saw and easier to work on (until you have taken apart and re assembled a few of the 290/310/390 saws) if you do your own repairs.

Well.........now you got me wondering if I should keep the 039 or 034????????? The 310 is out.:msp_biggrin:

I put a 390 in a 310 not long ago so I call that saw a MS 290/310/390 it supports a 25" ES :msp_biggrin:

Sell the 310 and 039 and find yourself a nice 036 or 360.
What he said..!!

That's what I would do anyway. The 310/390 is just too heavy for the power produced.

A good 036 or 360 is very lightweight...powerful..pro quality...very dependable...etc.
(361 also..!!)

:agree2: Chalk up another vote for offloading the others and using the proceeds towards a nice 361.

The real question here is: Is having a "PRO" saw more important than the money you will spend on buying it. The 310/390 saws work well. A bit heavy, yes but not that much. They can be ported and the muffler modded to give them more power. The 310 can actually be fitted with a 390 piston and jug, again for more power.

How much lighter is the 034 than the 038 mag? I've also got an 038 mag, and it's a pig, so I usually try to pair it up with something small and light (026pro). I feel like the 034 might not be a very big step down in weight reduction, for sacrificing almost one pony in power. If the 028 super failed to impress, I'm not sure the 034 is the cure...
Sell em' both and get what you want! ;)

034 - 56.5cc - 11.9 lb - 4.1 hp

036 - 61.5cc - 12.5 lb - 4.6 hp

038 - 67cc - 14.8 lb - 4.5 hp

038 mag - 72cc - 15.0 lb - 5.0 hp
