Is firewood made out of gold here?

Why do ALL people out here think fire wood turns to gold when they post it on CL? I get so envious of all you guys that have multiple choices for free wood!!! I see tons of homes around here with stacks of wood and no chimney or stacks of wood that will rot away before they get rid of it.

honey locust firewood

Maple Firewood
"$15 to $30 each per cut depending on size. You haul and split. Call 208-362-4827. Leave message and phone number if we dont answer."

Maple tree trunk - 13' (This one was orig. posted for $500!!)
We had to cut down our maple tree as it was ill. We have a 13 foot section. The circumference is 3feet to 2.5 feet. Wood looks good (no beetle or bug damage).
Make offer or trade. You haul.

There is lots of people like that around here, They think it is worth it's weight in gold!

Stop looking for wood. Switch to looking for chainsaw work. You'll get paid to haul away your wood then.

Worth a shot, man!

I encounter the opposite here - they think my firewood is crap and want a cord for 50 bucks..DELIVERED too.
I peel the bark off, nice and even, no chunky crap and punky junk.
I charge 200 a cord for mine; might be a bit pricey but this is delivered and stacked. may be a bit on the higher end side but still; it's clean and 99% bug free with no bark.

I run into the same thing around here! I have stopped and offered to remove downed trees from peoples yards and they try to charge me for the tree!!! I politely told them no way and their response was it is saving me money by not having to pay for my heat........It really makes me want to cuss them out! three weeks later they pay someone to cut it up and throw it over the hill in their back yard. This kind of crap happens to me all the time. I maybe manage to land one or two decent scores per year and the rest of the time the home owner just ends up stacking it to rot on the edge of the property line.

It's called wishful thinking. They see other adds selling wood and they say "hey I can sell my precious tree that got blown down" or they were too cheap or broke or whatever to pay for the removal of whatever tree they had cut and try to make some money back. Some tree services will cut a tree for a homeowner and not haul it off for a cheaper price.I do it pretty often for folks in the country who have room to pile the tops and burn them.

I am thinking about posting a new ad on CL outlining the worthlessness of all these peoples posts. How can they expect someone to pay them for cleaning up their junk that they are too lazy or unable to clean up in the first place.

Another great example.

split firewood

Man, I'd be rich if I could get 350 a "load" for pine like that around here. That's a cord and a quarter, tops, in that picture, and that's with some fancy creative stacking.... You just about can't even give pine away around here, I just cut and stack it as it comes for myself, mix it in with the other stuff.

I wonder if there would be any profit in moving railcars of hardwood logs out there? Or palletized and processed?

I have NO idea at all on that, never shipped a railcar of anything.

I don't know, but send the train to LA when it leaves Georgia and I'll throw a few sticks on,too.

You can't hardly give pine away in our area, even if it was split and stacked. Everybody thinks it burns too fast and puts creosote in their chimney.

That guy might get $350 in KC if he included the trailer as part of the sale.

HA Ha!! I like that. I call the guy and ask..

I *might* try to find out what a theoretical traincar full of split oak would cost to ship. I would imagine already processed wood on pallets would be the most cost effective, plus only need a regular forklift to move them. I'll have to stack up say a one third cord pallet worth, measured carefully, then throw it into the scales we have here, then add in a pallet and some wrapping stuff and chicken wire sides, etc, then do the math on how many might fit in a rail car.

My guess would be there could be some profit in it, but not much. Both ends need to make money and both ends have expenses and would have to split the transpo cost.

It would be neat though if this was viable!

Be careful. The next thing you know they'll be bringing over on container ships from China.
