I did run into some wood a 32" wouldn't reach through to get it bucked. I used the 42" for it and still had to go to the other side to finish up the cut. I want to say the stump was 60" or so right above the fence wire where I cut it loose so the stump could be stood back up to fix the fence. I didn't like running a 42" on a 660. The 395 I had did much better with it.

but when running around on the mtn id much rather walk around the tree and work my face cut alittle then carry the extra weight and i make up for it in speed cause i can run the 8 pin rim and throw chips

660 will run a 42" bar and full skip chain no problem, even in oak....not sure about a 47" bar though

That's a nice pic there! Full skip will pull awesome in just about all wood.

Roll Tide take it easy on him, he's sitting in front of a computer screen and like to puff up ;) us that run saws know what works and what doesn't. Let him differ it out on his own. It you have to run your big bar what do you reach for? 395, as do I my friend(well shortly it'll be my 3120 :):):)) the 660 is a good saw, the 395 just shines better in a few places that just so happen to kind of make or break the deal when runnin the big bars is all tht saw is going to see. But let him puff up no reason for you to sit through undo sarcasm.

thanks bud but I like getting people all worked up. I don't take it personally I deal with it on a daily basis. Just poking alittle. I understand. ;)

No doubt about that part. I drove the truck to about 20 feet away and put the bar on to buck the log up to work on the fence. I don't like anything over a 32" for carrying through the woods either. I prefer a light weight 28" and a 70cc powerhead.

If I went to an 880 would the three foot bar I have for the 660 fit on it or are the bar studs/oil slot, etc. different?

I don't believe so, looks different on mine, but I only stayed at a Holiday In Express. Someone will know for sure though.

No. The studs of the 088 are thicker than on the medium mount saws.

Looking at the 880, can you use 063 chain versus 404? Seems like the stihl bars seem to come in 404. I would sooner not use a third chain size. I'm looking to goto 4 foot max bar.

I assume you mean 3/8 vs .404, and it shouldn't matter much anyway. If you have a 4' bar on an 88 it's not like you're going to be swapping it out onto other saws so a third type of chain to deal with should't be a problem

That's why u build up a 660 with a real good port and a sharp square chisel skipper and make then 4 foot bar boys jealous. Yes my bars smaller but I still cut more trees and board feet a week. Plus I can hold my saw up at the end of the day. I'm on my phone or id link you to my video of my 066 I just build. It on my thread about what you built today if you wanna see her screamin on only the second tank.

As for the 880 guy that is a big bar mount won't fit any of the smaller stihls

Here's the video if I did it right. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/V0bVxTY-ssg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> that's the new go to in the woods. She makes chips let me tell you. That was only the second tank. Shoulda got a video of me usin it to noodle that log for that beam in my other post

It sEems like there is more bar choices and chain choices in .375. Plus I have a roll of 375 chain and if I didn't have to buy another type of chain that wouldn't be bad.
