Hi y'all. Been lurkin over a year. Love this site. You guys and gals rock!!!
Now here's my issue or should I say my brother's issue: he bought a new husky 460xt rancher from a big box store. (Wouldn't take my advise and buy from stealership) Filled it with oil and premix. Started 3rd pull. Seemed kinda boggey but told him a cold saw will do that till warm. Once warm still bogs while blippin throttle. Put it in wood and it dies. Slow trigger pull and it will rev most of the way but has no power. Fiddled with carb screws but it barely makes a difference. (learned how to tune a carb here thanks to you guys) but can't figure how to remove limiters. Seems like they are inside a metal housing connected to the carb. Thoughts and ideas????? And sorry no pics at this time. But it really did happen. I also did try searchin and i know this comes up weekly but my searching techniques suck.:msp_confused:

Ask him what more proof he could need to buy a saw from a real dealer??

First check the gas mix, replace with fresh mix.

All the stratos start cold, if it idles well let it idle for at least a minute.

Accelerate to full speed and put it in wood...what do you mean it "dies"? It literally stalls??

What does it sound like full throttle no load?

It's tough to believe that the saw is this out of tune out of the box. I'd probably return it.

DO NOT start cutting limiters and doing other stuff. KEEP return of the saw a viable option.

There are no limiters to cut. This saw uses the special adjustment tool. But what difference does it make when he bought it from a store that doesn't do adjustments in the first place.

"Stealership" comment doesn't exactly peg my sympathy meter. Have fun.

My DEALERship has done real good by this newbie! Saved me $$$, asked how I was going to use the saws, then sold me the right saws for what I needed, not what I wanted. I thought I had a problem with the oiler, so I walked in cold. They took it in the back, and within a half hour, I had it back with a new chain and a clean bar (& oiler hole :jester:) - NO CHARGE.

Nope....no way are they a "stealership"

Just my .02

Return it. Box stores love returns. They take them with a smile.

Can you verify he put good mix in it? Did you see it happen. I would have him return it, get another one and then have him read the fine manual. Help mix new mix. Make sure he breaks it in properly and then wrap him in bubble wrap and send him into the woods. LOL:laugh: Just kidding on the last part... kind of.

I guess you might have noticed dealers on here get a little sensitive to being called thieves for trying to make a living. You might want to reconsider those words next time. A lot of the good posts you have read while lurking for a year may have been from them. I know how much money it's saved me and time. Do you?

Happy cutting!

Thanks for the info. Btw not looking for sympathy, just info or tips from knowledgeable members. Sorry if I offended any reputable dealers here. As was written, I tried to get my bro to buy from a local dealership not the big box store and for exactly this reason. He had a ton of gift certificates and store credit so he ended up paying under a $100 for the unusable saw. Guess its time to bring it back and try again.

Gas was fresh 50:1. The carb seems waaaaaaaay out of tune and starving for fuel.

Given a chance I'm sure the OP would take back the stealership remark. It sounds like he came straight from Harley Davidson forums and that is an accepted practice over there. Anyway, the best advice of returning the saw has already been stated so I'd like to tell a little retail tale. When I worked at a small Mom & Pop retail Plant Nursery we used to get cell phones calls from people shopping for plants at Lowes. You could hear the intercom in the background as they were asking for advice on what plants to buy.

It's just the 99.999999999999999% of the time we save the customer money over going to the box store, yet we get hit for being a STEALERSHIP. Box stores most everytime will end up costing more money except for the handful of "loss leader" items they have just to entice the people to go through their doors.

Absolutely return it and buy from a local Husqvarna dealer. This was already touched on, but a dealer will start the saw and make sure it works properly.

Also, call around.. I got mine on an end of the year sale for less than expected.

Very close...... an atv forum! I am all for the little guy/mom-n-pop stores and for making an honest buck or two.

Husky probably wont be selling in the big box stores anymore soon. I have a good feeling that they will be selling their new McCulloch's in the big box stores, and selling their name saws in the dealers. I will be glad if they do this because they deserve in the dealers..but the McCulloch name does not deserve to be used just for the name with a "less" quality saw.
I bought my 455 Rancher at Sears and have never had a problem with it. Some people tell me that Husky takes for a example a 455 with a small defect in it and ships that too a big box store such as TSC or Sears, and they take the 455s that are perfect and sell them at their dealers etc. Would not surprise me.
As for buying from a dealer, it is always the better option. Because the dealer more of the less has your back and will truly "honor" their warranty.

I must be slipping. Im usually very thorough with reading post but I read STEALERship as STELLERship and couldnt figure out what the big deal was. Now that I have found the root word :bang: I see the issue. FWPT- there are 2 dealers that have posted here that if I was in your shoes, I would attempt to make ammends with and use as my dealer given the situation. Both- top shelf guys.
