Anybody like Carlton chain anymore?

I like the Woodland Pro branded Carlton semi-chisel stuff (both 3/8-LP and 3/8 pitch...........would like to try some of their .404). Carlton chisel chain hasn't impressed me at all however....

bad vibrations vs vibe-ban or stihl comfort chains and absolute pain in the ass to sharpen, especially the first time. Most of the time it's hard to get a file in it or something else is wrong taking a lot of work to get it going. Unless the price is very right--no thank you.

Do you have carlton chipper chain?

I might go for a bit in 404 to make my restorations look authentic.

I just ordered a loop of Carlton N1C for my Jonsered 2036 from ebay. Part of the reason I never use that saw is the crappy chain they sell in the box stores. There is not much to choose from in 3/8 low pro. The Carlton looks like it has nice long cutters that I'll be able to sharpen a few times, although the Oregon 91VX chain looked pretty similar. I would've ordered Stihl if I could have found it with 56 drive links. I have Stihl RSC on my MS250 and it's great. Hopefully someone with some real experience will chime in. I bought a Jonsered 2171 new a few years back and they threw in a free loop of Carlton chain. When it came time to sharpen it I found one cutter tooth on backwards. Maybe that's why they were throwing in those chains for free.

I got a few loops of 30LP Carlton (Woodland Pro) a bit back and like it so much that I just stocked up on a few more 30LP and 30SC. Not enough data on the 30SC; time will tell.

For us Ozzys Carlton is half the price of Stihl.
I use a lot of 3/8 .063 semi chisel and it works fine,i can use up and bin a chain in a week cutting dry dirty hardwoods so for the price Carlton works for me.

Not a fan of Carlton chain . I have only used semi chisel and found the vibration bad on a chainsaw when using it. It is not sharpened very well from new. The left cutters are usually longer than the right ones and some links are impossible to hand file because the chrome is too thick when the chain is new. After the chain has been sharpened a couple of times with a grinder you can hand file it ok. When we used Carlton semi chisel on harvesters it cut slow and chipped bars. I think the reason it cut slow was because the cutters were too low and long so it wouldnt clear the chips out properly.

I like Woodland Pro for the money. I wouldn't pay the same price or pay more for Carlton or Woodland Pro than I would Oregon but its decent chain for the money. A new loop does take some work to be "good" chain, at least from what I have experienced. As previously mentioned, the corner on their chisel chain is not as crisp as Oregon or Stihl.
