I normally cut wood within 5 miles of my house. I have driven 35 miles one way to help a buddy clear some red oak tops left by loggers, but as a rule I can find wood close by.

I try to find it within 10 miles of the house. Other than that the gas gets too expensive.

I have lucked out and have about 5 years of wood to cut within a mile from home.:)

i have a couple places to cut . The farthest one is about 10 miles round trip. My neighbor just told me I could have the down trees in his woods and he would even pull them out to the pasture field with his tractor.

Got wood within a mile in two directions. Might as well be 100 now with all the snow. Did manage to get a load of ash rounds out on Tuesday only because my Yanmar is front wheel assist.

Unless the wood is free and you own a pulp truck, I would look elsewhere. Cheaper to buy a load where you live or buy a pellet stove.

I put up 120 cords last year - 101 got sold. I had some delivered but most was hauled in by me and nothing I picked up came from more than 15 miles away

I've been known to drive as far as 20 miles for wood. Most is less than 10. I have a big supply of dead ash that's about 400 yards from my back door so that will be next years wood. I cut at a place that was 17 miles one way. I had the local refuse company put a container there for me to fill. They drive right by my house every day and it was slow they he had a few extra dumpsters so he charged me $75 cash to dump it in my yard. Well worth the where and tear on my truck.

Some is across the road, up a steep slope but gravity gets the rounds down. Other ongoing projects about 5 mi away.

Then storms happen.
