Merry Christmas guys
I thought I would go out with a bang for a end of year build.
The candidate is a olympyk 980.
I'm going for just a through cleaning and a freshening up.
I got started on it before I thought about a post about it.
So here's where I'm at. Good case, tight bearings, good crank and good seals

The donar saw a 970. I need a few parts off of it, muffler, starter, tank, chain break handle and the dog.

Stay tuned

Thanks
The base is a wilton power arm jr. 343
The holder I had a guy make it at work.
It says it suppose to hold 30 pounds.
My 084 pushes it to the limit.

I got the 980 parts cleaned.

Now time for a carb rebuild walbro WJ 63

Carb kit changed from a k12-wj to a k15-wj
Something I have never seen is the throttle butterfly
Has EMAK stamped on it. I'll get a shot of that.
The top cover was cracked and broke, most people would pitch it but thats not a option being hard to find.

I did a post a while back on plastic restoration.
I use the same method to fiberglass the underneath.
Not pretty but a whole piece again.

The last several saws I built I started to cover the whole underside around the cylinder and muffler with aluminum tape to reflect the heat away from the plastic.

Here's the shot at the carb EMAK

Well I can't clean the bottom without giving the same treatment to the top. The air filter cover was mostly white and chauky from the oxidation.

Now that white stuff isn't what it looks like. I had to,scrape it just to get down to the grey color.
A little polishing a there you have it.

Here's what to look for to know it's a 980

I'll take a photo this evening of a 970 cylinder to compare.
Well since I split the case I'll install new bearings, seals and gasket. I needed a crank install tool for the flywheel side. My oem crank install tool for my husky 281 works on thte clutch side of the 980. I made one for the flywheel side.
3/4 bolt x 2" center tapped 8mm x 1.0, a short piece of 3/4 pipe and 2 3/4 washers.

Well I had to do a little backtracking. The crankcase coating was peeling off on the 980 case. So I'm using the case off the donor 970. Here's a few shots of both cases, can you see the differences?

I had one of those I bought new. It was a fast runner after a bit of work. It got sold to a member here who started a similar thread.
