been talking to some people, due to new rules, on the welfare scene, that the state maybe leaning towards, some subcontracting, on the subject of firewood, to be delivered to the people who qualify for their heating/energy asst. program. by certain firewood suppliers who apply for this program, and the money being sent directly to the supplier. so far this is not been confirmed, but I'am trying to find out more in my state, if anybody else has heard anything like this in your state, please share would you u2bwolfb4

In this state, when you fill out the application for energy assistance, you check next to your primary heating fuel (i.e., electric, coal, natural gas, propane, wood, or "other")... if you check "other" you must explain on the line provided. And yes "wood" is one of the options...
Then you provide the name, address and phone number of the utility/company you purchase from, along with your account number... and attach a recent bill (or copy of) to the application.
When, and if you are approved for assistance, the amount (which varies by number of people in the house, income, and whatnot) is sent directly to your account at the utility/fuel company... it shows up as a credit on your bill. You may get the approval the day you apply (if you apply in person), or in just a week or so if you mail it... but the utility/fuel company is under absolutely no obligation to provide you with anything until they actually receive the funds, which may take a month or better (they ain't notified it's coming either... it's just a "one-time" payment to your account).

Now, a firewood seller could qualify as a fuel company... but I'm bettin' you would have to be a "licensed", tax-payin' business (self-employed or other).
In other words, in this state, before the state is gonna' send you any money, you need a business address and phone, Tax ID, set/advertised hours of operation, accounts payable/receivable (at least customer account numbers), etc., etc... you would have to prove you're a legitimate business, not some hack with a cell phone and a pickup truck (not sayin' you are... just sayin).

spidy! you pretty much said it all ! true to what you said except for the firewood seller(VENDOR AS THEIR KNOWN HERE IN MN.)... I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH THE STATE FUNDS HERE IN MINNESOTA FOR OVER THIRTY YEARS,, THE FIREWOOD VENDOR JUST HAS TO HAVE WOOD AND A MEANS TO DELIVER IT TO A CLIENT! CHECKS ARE ELECTRONICALLY DEPOSITED INTO YOUR ACCOUNT! if you are a licensed vendor with a tax id then you(I) will be open to more of the sales to E.A.P. ENERGY ASSISTANSE PROGRAM. A CLIENTS ASST. CHECK WILL DEPEND ON INCOME, EMERGENCY CONDITIONS AN SUCH! DaNgEd FiNgErS lol... for funds it is done through state, federal, community charities along with civic clubs by donations.. so it's not all funded by "BIG BROTHER", but a good chunk of our tax,s do go where it is needed! forgot to mention there is a contract to sign every heating season, which deals with paper work !! GOVERNMENT PAPER WORK!!!!! it will also leave you open to audit at their discretion......

Why the hell would you want to sell to the gov and get paid by check vs sell to the public for cash money.

It doesn't have to be one-or-the-other, it can be both... expansion of the existing customer base through one payer.
If you're already running as a full-fledged (above-board) tax-paying business, and no delivery is required until after payment is received... that's a win in my thinkin'. The government contract fine print would be worth reading before signing, but most people and businesses that have government contracts do pretty well... government contracts can be darn lucrative.

The camp grounds I have would pay me on the spot at every fill up if I would get a credit card swiper for my phone. I still send out a bill through the snail mail. It seems the swiper attachment and the fees aren't worth it for me at the present time or into the foreseeable future.
