I took the cylinder off a MS661R yesterday in order to port it. What I found is unlike anything I've ever found in a saw before. Look what was in the intake boot! Talk about impeding air flow!!! This saw has been used, and surprisingly didn't run that bad, according to the owner. I sure would love to know what they are and how/why the got in there!

Two large rubber "washers" where stacked on top of each other, slightly folded, and tucked into the intake boot.

You find something like this to your 661 when you open it for ported ? mastermind or someone else find something similar ?
if NO. then someone put theese extra parts for reasons that only him and God know

That's a responsible adult saw....the second "gasket" was fer ifn the first one broke...

Oh wait...looks like he broke through both.... :(
Heve you see carburator with 2 pump diaphragms, one original and the other from a cigarettes packet nylon ?? then the operator dont know nothing as usual
Miracle, Miracle, Miracle , God do this

Because it is impossible for humans at a factory to screw up?

As someone who's been involved with manufactuing for over 25 years I find your view of the perfection of a manufacturing facilty to be humorous. Stuff happens.

put theese two rubbers to your saw and then come and tell us that the saw work good , as the operator have tell to blsnelling.

try this oil it burns WAY cleaner than klotz r50 has no smell, smoke or buildup.

I just priced that stuff through a "stens" account( which actually connects to a Jthomas account) and priced by the gallon( in a 4 gallon case) and that stuff gets downright cheap. delivered was like $25 per gallon.

I've not had any problems with R50 causing a big build up. Most of my saws are used milling and it seems you can burn any oil when milling and it doesn't build up as much since it gets plenty hot for a few minutes.

I'd say those rubber pieces were causing a pretty good restriction for mix.

So what's the shiny stuff? Oil, grease, rubber protectant-sealant, assembly lube, adhesive....?

any sort of chance that the hard deposits are chard foreign material? as in grease or glue.

As much as I like the humorous responses, I'm inclined to think that possibly
the rubber/vinyl parts all come from a vendor or division and they are all dumped int a large bin for shipping and this is just a fluke.
The reason for asking about the glazing is if it's not mix oil, knowing what it is, could possibly be a clue
to how and why these extra-optional accesories are there.
I'm agreed that they dont look like flashing from other parts.

anti-vibe in the intake for smoother air pulses and less bouncy combustion and lower vibes,.....right ??? (lol).

They did not block the intake completely. Take a look at how small the opening is at the venturi in these carbs - the remaining open area of that intake was probably not small enough to cause a major problem.

I have ported several 661s now. These are definitely not supposed to be in there.

I think the carbon buildup is largely due to this 'intake restriction', and the saw was 'half throttled' it's entire life, so it never got warmed up well. If the saw ran hot enough it should keep itself pretty clean

I've just started using the Lucas full synthetic at 32:1.. seems good so far.. When I took the saw apart after 2 tanks things were nice and clean, and well lubed. I'll leave the saw together for longer this time and run some more through it

Could be, but I'd be more comfortable with him running a known clean running coil such as Maxima K2 or Belray H1-R.

There is no replacement for good oil, I will totally agree there, but any 'oil burning' engine, whether a 2 stroke or a diesel, will carbon up until it dies if it's never worked hard and run too cool

Shawn Ray tore one down in Canada to send me the jug.......same thing in the intake.

He asked me what it was......I had no idea.

I've ported a least a dozen of these. I've yet to see that in one. Really weird.....

Are those rubber washers used anywhere on the saw?
