My dad's with 300,000 miles just got a full restoration.. we don't put many miles on it, so I'm sure the body will rust off AGAIN before it dies... My truck I've bumped the power up a lot, so the rest of the drivetrain will take a dump first... Cab is in very good shape with no rust anywhere

i know of a few cummins north of 1,000,000 miles. trucks usually need extensive work to last that long though unless they are babied.

Not only are you a husky guy, but dodge too?! :dumb2:

:)

heck no!!!!! dodges are junk man! LOL only good thing about them is something they didn't even come up with. it's called the cummins. not that i would wanna run one of those ratty, loud, sound like it's about the blow up POS's anyways. IMO the cummins is a very good engine but it has the poorest drivability out of all the diesels. i'm a GM guy but to be honest, if i went and bought a new truck today it would be an F350 with the 6.7.

The 6.7 is the way to go, I have a 6.7 for a service truck and after driving one there is no other option for me.

Hey we finally agreed on somthin

there is no denying the smooth, quiet, powerful, and amazing driveability of the 6.7. even for a GM guy LOL

With the amount of electronics required to fire one of these new diesels, I'll pass... $1000 per injector? I replace the full set for less... nevermind Ford's stupid idea that the cab needs to be lifted to do most engine work on the rear cylinders, even on the gas models. I do admit if it wasn't for the cummins powerplant, I'd probably be driving a different brand of truck. I don't see what problem you have with the 'drivability'... they have the most bottom end grunt of any of them.. and if I'm driving a diesel, I don't want to feel like I'm driving a gas truck

That's all well and good, but bottom end grunt makes no difference in an automatic. The tranny will get you moving when it goes. And trust me, I hate driving my 7.3 because of the noise. We have the 6.7s and everybody on my crew loves them. By comparison, when we demoed trucks, we liked the Ford followed by GM and everyone hated the Dodge/Cummins.

If you want a penis extension that rattles and clanks its way everywhere, buy a Cummins motor. Want a truck that's comfortable and won't be an annoyance if you spend hours upon hours in it every day? That's why the 6.7 is great. And, you know, it's a Ford, which means everything outside the motor will actually hold up.

My buddy just rolled 1,300,000 on his 1997 12 valve. We just put a set of injectors in it and ran the overhead, first set of injectors it has had from new.

way off at $1000 man. most diesel sticks can be had for under $300. anything with a mechanical pump is a thing of the past. i'll own something with a big block before one of those old turds LOL. maybe ford did have a stupid idea but there ain't many of those trucks that will need any work involving removing the cab. everyone i know of has been dead reliable. even the hot shot guys can't kill them.

Mine work like this: Add fuel. Add DEF from time to time. Change oil every 6 months. Go. And not yet single problem out of 5 trucks. Go figure.

Exactly the reason IF I'd buy a new truck it would be a dodge again.. they're the only ones offering a standard tranny... and an inline 6 is SO much easier to work on than a V8...

don't like the sound? turn the stereo up!

What kind of mileage do you get out of a 6.7?
I drive a small Toyota van with a tiny Peugeot diesel turbo engine doing about 80 km (50 miles) to the gallon... gas is expensive over here :envy:

that's one of the things. the 6.7 is kinda piggy although not as piggy as the 6.4. probably the piggiest diesel on the market right now but it's so worth it. alot better then the dirty piglet 6.7 I6 with it's EGR issues and DPF plugging LOL can you believe that dodge calls a $2000 EGR valve cleaning regular maintenance  i had an 07 for a few months.

Part of the reason I can't see myself ever buying a new vehicle! I can start and run my truck with no battery for as long as I want... it's kinda nice knowing you can when you're out in the bush and your alternator/battery packs it in

Oh, and Ford's 6.0 EGR cooler was soooo much better an idea

What I find with the 6.7 PSD is that it does really well for its displacement on the highway. I can manage 20 cruising at 65. When I'm driving around jobsites with a lot of idle time I'm close to 8, and around town I'm at 15. It's not bad on fuel at all by diesel pickup standards.

I don't know about you, but I shift enough gears in my 13 and 18 speed transmissions-and when tooling around a jobsite I really don't feel like having to bounce between 1 & 2 all the time. And... When you're a supervisor and have to do things like make phone calls and talk to people, turning up the stereo isn't an option. I'll say it again. Ford and GM make a better product if you intend to use it for its intended purpose. Dodge makes a better toy for insecure rednecks.
