I didn't have time to put a compression gauge on it last night. I/ll do it tonight after work. I pulled the starter...it felt good; I'll see if the compression tester agrees.
 
I put the saw in my trunk this morning and took it to work...didn't want to wait until tonight the look it over. I pulled the fuel cap off; good threads, not cross threaded nor stripped. It had a duckbill under the cap...good! I touched the duckbill with a ball point pen and it turned to dust...bad. Need a new duckbill. The gas tank was empty and shiny. I'm guessing the fuel lines will fall apart in the same manner the duckbill did, so I'm not even going to put fuel in it until I do the fuel line & filter. Just a very small paint chip is missing from the air filter cover screw leading me to believe it's been gently used. The clutch drum is shiny and almost no contact marks on the sprocket. The chain is new. The saw Serial #25475192 Anyone have production year breakdown by serial number range?
 
I just picked up a runner with bar issues from a member along with a clinton engine and a homie 7-19.seems to be a great little saw.
 
The previous owner was a WWII vet who passed away recently. The saw was found in a canvas bag in the attic of his house. The family members were cleaning out the house. It was stored in a box with newspapers from the late 1970's. The grandson I bought it from was certain it had been in the attic over 30 years, maybe longer. His mom said she remembered the saw and her dad bought it new, but she hadn't seen it "for a really long time". His daughter said the gentleman didn't own any land other than his house, and his home was on the Chesapeake Bay in Norfolk, VA. Not a lot of call for serious chainsaw use. Anyways, I'll work on it a little and see if it has any life left in it.
 
Nice! Be careful working on it. Several parts are NLA for that saw. Ask me how I know... My cap was missing the duckbill. I drilled it out and put one of the $2 Poulan duckbills from fleabay on it. So far so good.
 
I tried to remove the air filter and it crumbled into a brown dust. I need to clean the dust out of the air box before I start pulling on the rope for a compression test. I downloaded the IPL and will start the hunt tomorrow for a duckbill (still has the star washer under the cap), fuel line, air filter, and carburetor box gasket.
 
Box gasket is NLA, but I guess you could make your own from gasket material from the auto parts store. Air filters can be found online. My cap was missing the duckbill and the retaining area was boogered. The cap is NLA, so I drilled it out and put a duckbill in it pushed in from the top. Since the duckbill is a rubbery material, it hangs on quite well.I can turn it upside down now and no leaks!
 
The Poulan and the Homelite duck bills are different. The one that goes in the Poulan gas cap is a bit narrower, the Homelite one won't fit in the star washer. The air filter can still be bought, I bought one locally and I think it had a Stens brand on the package.
 
Anyone have a parts saw they can sell some parts off of...or know/have a source for NLA/obsolete parts?
