cheap Canadian tire chainsaw oil, $12 CDN for 4 liters. The previous owner of my saw use the same stuff for 27 years , day in and day out, 6 hours a day, and NEVER had a problem. The saw is still on its original piston, but third set of rings.

Nuff said.

Stihl HP Super (black bottle) 50:1 with premium gas.
Low smoke, never had any carbon issues with plugs or mufflers.

I want to try Stihl HP Ultra (white bottle, fully synthetic) in my 4-mix pole pruner & hedge trimmer.
Has anyone used this stuff?

Mine is a blend of natural bio-degradable products, monkey pizz and gorrilla intestinal juices. Gotta to mix up just enough for use, as it gets pretty foul without use....

Ain't technology grand?

I use Mobil 1 MX2T in everything across the board now. I use a 40:1 ratio in all the older saws that used to be 16:1. I use 50:1 in everything else that was originally 32:1, 40:1, & 50:1, etc. I have no comparatively high compression or modified saws... yet...., so I found that regular 87-octane gas seems to work best in the saws I currently have. I even have a Lombard AP-24D running at 50:1 instead of the original 16:1 and it runs great. After you get the carb adjusted properly, another advantage of using one of several fully synthetic lubes available seems to be that the engine tends not to load up nearly as bad when you have to let idle for a short while. Also, there is only a fraction of the smoke you would see previously under heavy load FOT conditions.

Being someone who tinkers with old saws and has a great deal of respect for the engineering that went into the "old iron", I am usually the first one to talk nostalgically about the "good ol' days", but this ain't one of those times. Don't sell technology short — it has brought us many good things, one of which is superior-quality, fully synthetic 2-stroke lubricants you can rely on to do the job, protect your equipment, and keep it running reliably for a long time. I am now more concerned with mixing the ratio accurately, keeping dirt, grit, and debris out of the fuel, and keeping the fuel containers clean than I am with what brand of fully synthetic lube I am using. :D

I use Havoline 10W30 but never if It has over 7500 miles on it. I have found any motor oil with that many miles will send a piston flying like a humming bird in a tornado.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned used motor oil or canola oil.ne.

Motul 800 2T Factory Line "Off Road" has provided the least wear, least deposits, and most power. Things just run long & strong on it. Also satisfied with Red Line and Mobil MX2T. Silkolene was good too. I want to try Klotz.

Hmmm, I need a saw just like that. Very nice shape Sylvatica, even nicer than the 3120 I got from Chopwood that was babied, and I thought that was one of the nicest old saws I'd ever seen....WOW!!!

Stihl in the orang bottle and Opti 2.
Did try Amsoil in a sled a long time ago and after about 10 minutes in heavy snow burnt a hole in the cylinder wall. The sled was older and easily could have had other problems. Haven't used Amsoil since.

I use Supertech. I been using it for three years and have had no problem with it. It is nice to buy a gallon for 5 dollars, and it has the additives that remove carbon as well. I was leery of it at first and ran it through a trial saw to see how it affected its running habits and performance. After about five gallons of gas through the saw I tore it down and inspected it for unusual wear. After I came to the conclusion that the oil was not affecting the saw I put it back to getter, and I use it in all my saws. I am sure the synthetic blends work better but for the average user like me I can not afford that much for two cycle oil and a gas that cost $2.07. I would like to be able test the different brands of oils in saws, but would be expensive and time consuming to do it right; do to controlled environmental issues and funds

I run klotz R50 in everything i got. I've used it for years in my yz265 motocross bike, right down to my chainsaws and trimmers. It's made just for high rpm engines, and has very little carbon build up. Plus it smells cool.

Mobil mx2t or amzoil sabre as I understand they share the same base oil??? What was it Bwalker said about it?(amzoil)

Anyways I always wondered how harmful it was to the engine if you swapped back and forth between different oils, sythetic and petro based oils?

I've always used Bel-Ray MC-1 2-Cycle Synthetic Racing Lubricant, just because I got hooked on Bel-Ray for my racing quad. It burns really clean, and is the best imo for wear.

What does Stihl ultra (full synthetic) sell for at the dealer in 2.5 gallons bottles, and in a quart?

There seems to be a wide variety of oils people are using, and swear by! I guess just pick your flavor!

As long as you buy a quality oil and mix it properly, I really fail to see how you can go wrong today. I have a good amount of money wrapped up in my saws, so I choose to spend a little more for synthetic, but I have never had a problem with Shindiwia ONE, Husky, or Stihl mix.
