hi everyone,
newbie rookie hoping for help.
been on the site for a couple of daze and all of a sudden i bought i used ms660 for $450CAN
only to realize it needs work!
want to replace the clutch, so far got the clip and 2 other pieces off(wish i knew what they were called), the drum starts to come off then becomes stuck?
do i need to use force or is there something i am missing?
thanks

thanks for the immediate reply bigbadbob!
where about interior bc are you located?
i live in the slocan valley.............

nice, the loops!
any suggestions as to why the saw is leaking bar oil?
fuel pump malfunction or perhaps the tank is ruptured?

Nothing to do with the fuel pump. Fuel pump is in the carb.
Stihls dont normaly leak bar oil.
You need to find the source, could be the tank but not common.
Is it coming from the bar mounting area?? The tank vent is in there and the outlet for the bar,,,
The oil pump is behind the clutch,, the clutch has left hand threads,,,
How about some pictures??

you'd think i had something better to do on friday night other than part this saw all over my kitchen table hahahah
um, need to wait for the wife to come home to use camera for pics.....she won't be happy about the table
whoops meant the OIL pump not fuel pump.
yep it's coming from the bar mounting area.
i'm about to try to get the clutch off so i suppose i'll be right there for the oil pump too.
faulty oil pump leak leak perhaps?

nope ,never been this far into a saw before.
got the spark plug out, piston raised upward position ready to put my piston stop(plastic specialized tool not rope or metal) in the spark plug hole and crank on the nut clockwise.
somehow i feel confident with you watching over me........
should i do it?
oh man!

Your guess on the leak is as good as mine.
Might be worth spending some time to locate the leak b4 taking it all apart,,I myself have not had a pump leak,,, but doesnt mean it cant. Maybe clean it up and find the source,,
I use a torch and just warm it up. Gently!!!
Make sure there is no gas around,,,,

I mostly us an electric impact with just the spark plug in,,,,some dont like the use of the impact,,

i have a chain that does not stop when i release the throttle which lead me to believe i need to inspect the clutch thus pulling it apart anyway.
the clutch shoes look worn for sure, i'm assuming the springs are pooped too, might as well replace no? impact driver seems unfavorable to most, you think it's fine?
when the saw sits on the ground i noticed the small leak of bar oil but cannot find where it is coming from even with the saw pulled apart this far.

I have a low hour 660 that I bought new. It has developed an oil leak when sitting. I haven't messed with it. Presume little O ring. Get a repair manual and IPL (illustrated parts list ) Ask on the beg for manuals thread.
