im thinking about a fireplace insert. Vermont castings has a castiron insert with a blower. They run a stainless pipe inside the chimney flues. I have a 10” x10” flue on the fireplace, I want a 8” stainless pipe inside the chimney. I’d use the fireplace more often at night. Grilling, baking potatoes on the coals and enjoying the fire. My point is I’m not sure how good the stainless flexible chimney is?

I have a Vermont Castings Merrimack insert, a very similar unit; cast iron, blower and a 3 cf firebox. The Merrimack as two doors however. I have a 6" stainless liner, and burn it virtually 24/7 from November to March with no problems. We don't use it with the doors open, which if I understand correctly, you'd like to do. Not sure how that would work out...
