I’ve seen some threads and seems lots of different views so just for fun what do you run your splitter engine at!?? Wide open just above idle or do you like swinging the steel yet?!

Mine current engine came off a generator. No throttle. WFO or off

1/3 throttle, cylinder cycles the same speed as WOT. If I get into some knarly stuff with knots or whatever I bump it up to eleven
Depends how many beers I've had when I start.
I have a gx390 13hp 22gpm 5x24, run it just above an idle.
I have been trying some thing a little different with throttle. I have a lever on the hydraulic handle that allows me to change settings easy. I do not believe it is perfect yet. Often I have a pile of split near the front that is in my way so I let it idle for a minute then when I come to a large knot I want full throttle then back to regular operation. Thanks
I hate splitting a knot, usually end up with two ugly pieces!

My splitter only has two speeds, on and off. If I'm splitting, it's on.

That's not possible with a gear pump (which most splitters are)

I run mine maybe 1/4 throttle. Cycle speed isnt a whole lot diffrent then wide open and im not in a rush.
But i still do most my splitting with the axe. I enjoy the free workout.

Governed,,, replaced the engine a while ago with a new 6HP BS, supposedly for a lawn mower, took the blade brake and useless stuff off it... Stays at idle, and it throttles itself under load...
Depends on if I have earmuffs with me if i dont not wide open.
Those motors last a real long time mine is still going 14 years and hundreds of cords!
Mine was well used in a commercial environment, free from a friend, his boss says wont start toss it,,air filter was plugged, water in gas, dirty ugly and smoked fer a bit ,,I put a new slug and rings and carb on it. Has electric start on it. Probably done 20 cords so far.

It’s amazing some of the stuff the commercial guys throw away that some regular maintenance could have kept alive.
