I agree totally.A dog is better company than most humans.
Pretty dog. There is nothing like them.@clint53 There isn't an available emoji for me to express how accurately your picture reflects my own experience. So, I'll just share

Very nice reply. Sorry for your loss of your Lab.In close to forty years of living on a farm the last five is the first we haven't had a dog around. Our last one was a brown lab that was eighteen years old when she passed. One of these days we need to go dog shopping. Nice post.
My wife helps me a lot moving the wood and will run the hydraulic splitter some also.I'm perfectly happy to be splitting wood alone.
Don't have a dog.
But it's nice to have kids to help with the stacking.

Yes, 8 yr old Border collie and fantastic dog.Border Collie?
We had one for 13 years. He would watch over us every time we were outside working.
My kind of life, seriously. The best times I have had in quite some time or many years. I have a timber project that is closed to the public that is several hours from civilization. Very much wildlife where as the Mule Deer seem to accept me and dwell around my camp. The bears stay away more but come to check camp out none the less. My guard dog does not allow any thing including a mouse from getting close with out making a huge racket. The Mountain Lion concerns me but ""Sandy" does not tolerate uninvited guests. I get set up in my shelter and stay for a few weeks at a time. Very very pleasant. I do not seem to have time to get lonely. Thanks
I know your pain. My wife sometimes runs the splitter and I move to wood to and from the splitter.
