I'm not up on all the race saw stuff, but I have some ideas...I know they run a lot more exhaust duration, you can get away with that when running a pipe. I'm kinda thinking the same thing...I've got enough work saws in the 70-80cc class, it'd be kinda fun to build a piped BB race saw out of one of my 044s. I'd start pretty basic, but eventually would like to slice the head off and make my own. Maybe even make a reed cage. After that, it'd be cool to make a hotsaw out of a dirtbike motor.

The pipes are kinda specific to the model, also different cone shape/diameter/length effects power. I have a basic understanding of how pipes work, but I don't have the data to just build the perfect pipe without doing a bunch of experimenting.
I wonder if there's a specific make/model guide line to building a pipe? There must be info on it out there I would think. ☝️Also, NOS?🤔 Ive seen NOS kits fir saws on the internet, but I have no idea how much NOS would Improve performance? I've heard from both sides of that coin!🤷

Good to hear from you kk. I had the collapse thing going on with COVID as well. I would ask to have your potassium checked. Mine was in the " lethal" range.
please excuse my ignorance, but Lethal as in not enough potassium or to much potassium?

It was a total f*** up and so close to killing the cyclist. They had the gear, big Stihl and you can see the chipper behind the truck just right of the tree. Judging from the fact the canopy had been (presumably safely) dismantled they knew what they were doing, but when it came to that stem they cut corners badly and risked lives. Which will be why the police were after them and I believe IDed them. Health and safety prosecution will have happened, someone ought to have served time for that wrecklesness. The road should have been closed/had lights controlling it and the stem should have been ringed all the way down anyway, the council wouldn't have been happy about the damage that stem would have done the highway.
As for what actually happened, I'm at a loss. The rope and the gob you can see should have had the tree fall along the pavement (sidewalk). You see the guy on the saw playing in the gob then take the saw out and walk away, then the stem goes over perpendicular to the hinge! All I can think is the tree was rotten and the hinge therefore wasn't there, or the cutter somehow cut too far and cut it. But then why he was tickling the back of the gob after having already done the back cut I don't know.

Hark at me! I've never cut a tree in my life.... Know the lingo.... But not much more 😂
Mind blowing that there wasn't even a traffic control flagger or someone along those lines? Scary stuff indeed!

P.S. What's a gob?

How's everyone's firewood consumption been? Other than the Christmas blizzard, it's been really mild. These are the kind of fires I'm having, with kindling and one split or 2 smaller ones. I'm at about 2 facecord or 2/3 of a full cord so far since end of October. Usually January and February I'll burn that much per month and here we are halfway through January.
Extremely low. A 5 day burn and a few nights only. Or one 5 gallon bucket of ashes.

Years ago I was running enduros and wrenching at a shop that sold Montesa, and sponsored me to ride one. OK bike but a little behind the times and missing low end grunt that the Japanese bikes had with reed valves. I found a roached Yamaha DT250 cylinder in the shop, sawed the reed cage off and welded it to my cylinder. The whole time I was wondering how it would turn out but it was a success and gave me grunt. :D

Thanks for the clarification, I couldn't remember exactly but it was a interesting read. Those American walnut trees were huge, they showed pics. It was also depressing to see the tree basically disappear. They said there was a couple small groups of trees maybe in Minnesota and one other spot that were not effected due to being isolated.
The trees are still around and keep popping up but never grow very big before they get hit with the disease again and die off. We have had a few over the years. I think the biggest one made it to 6 " in diameter before it died.

Where I'm at oak wilt and gypsy moths are killing the oaks off. Another 10-15 years in my neighborhood there won't be many still left alive. Luckily our property in lapeer county the oaks are going strong. I can't remember the last time I seen a dead or dying one.

It has been a mild Winter in Mass also. It is still cold at night and I keep the fire going. November was very cold here and I have been burning since then. Now that I am retired I do keep the stove going all day. I'm on tote #5 right now and they hold 44 cubic feet of wood. These totes hold 330 gallons which is 44.2 cubic feet. I have the wood stacked well inside. #5 is already 1/3 empty. I'm glad I have a huge woodpile of split wood.

I have Ash wilt or blight on my property. It started 6 years ago. I had an arborist look at them and he said take them down. I have been doing that as often as I can. The bark at the roots is dying off and killing the trees. He called it Ash blight.

I live in northern Michigan/ogemaw county and have property in lapeer county just about every ash tree is gone or dead. Have been seeing a lot of young regrowth though. Nothing major but seeing a lot of saplings. Not sure if it's root/stump offshoots or what. Maybe the eab ran out of food and moved on. You can see under the bark where they did there damage. I sure hope that blight/disease doesn't wipe them back out again

Most the loader operators I know would purposely overfill a pickup truck just to make a **** out of the guy that thinks a pickup should be loaded with a 988 cat and not get any stones on their bumper or be overweight. But deference between a dump truck and a pickup.
No yard around me will load a pickup . Maybe a resale place like a landscaper but none of the quarries will . They will load my dump trailer
We have a 92 2wd and a 99 4wd or 4 wheeler or what ever it is safe to call it lol. Selling the 99. Getting myself down to 1 truck.( I also have an 80 GMC with a dump bed. Beast of a wood hauler, but my knee won't take that clutch anymore. Two days driving it and I'm layed up.
All of mine were Square bodies . Then I bought the Dodge 3500 when the kids were older
Awesome jeep!!
I sold it when I bought the Dodge .Didn’t need two plow trucks . But in hindsight I should have kept it . Low miles very little rust 258ci 6 cyl with granny low 4spd

Our wood consumption is way down . I don’t like it to hot in the house anyway . With this warm weather we tend to have a couple of small hot fires during the day . And no real cold in the long range forecast few weeks it’ll be maple tapping so spring isn’t to far off .
I will happily taste test your syrup for you. :popcorn2:

I seriously would take a 70's era suburban for a family vehicle if I ever found a real nice one.
I've always thought I'd go though it and replace every wear item ( externals around the engine, brake system etc.) Keep an extra kidney for the distributor in the glove box, and a few tools. I would feel more comfortable driving that to California than I would a new vehicle with the 1000's of things that can go wrong with them at any moment.

On the gravel pit, ours stopped loading pick ups for a while, probably over the psychos who came in brand new pick ups expecting to keep them pristine in a gravel pit. ( Which I agree is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard of. )
After a while , I think they realized just how much money it was costing them so they opened it back up to single axle trucks. It's got to be a tough spot for them , but there are better ways to handle it than being reckless and trying to destroy someone's truck. I'd probably make anyone in a nice truck sign a damage waiver when they weigh in.
I myself won't own a truck I'm afraid to use like a truck unless I'm fortunate enough to also have a " work truck" for stone etc.
