We were in a "Severe Weather Alert" yesterday from a system that hasn't gotten to you Eastern guys yet. Suppose to only get a dusting/slush in our area, though. Actually, it went South and we didn't get anything. Good work day. Got the rest of my marginal firewood stacked on the end pallets and the yard cleaned up.

I put a new oil pump/B&C and sprocket on my MS170 and after a while the bar became hot. Removed B&C and oiler was still putting out. Cleaned oil trough and groove in bar, too. Then I noticed oil pickup holes on bar were clogged. Anyone ever drill these holes larger? any advantage to it? Just thought with larger holes, oil would always get by to the chain.
I don't have an answer to your question, but I am interested to hear other's thoughts as well. My MS290 never seems to get enough oil. I have changed the pump, line and filter, and made sure to blow out the passage from the pump to the output. Meanwhile, that old Pioneer that I just fixed up practically sprays oil. Go figure...

Here's a convoluted article that may be of interest...

Why are Republicans more likely to suffer hearing loss?

https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2024/02/09/hearing-loss-republicans/

Hint... age, shooting guns and doing noisy work are the causes, not being Republicans (though those fitting the causal profile may be).

P.S. I couldn't figure out a way to post an image as converting the print to PDF to images results in 17 images...

Another couple of stupid chainsaw repair questions. To recap, my 038 surges when I pump the throttle. I took the carb off to aid in the replacement of the fuel line (PM?). I found the ground wire had cracked insulation and was setting on top of the metal throttle rod. When the trigger is depressed, could the wire be shorting the saw out? I say no, but what do I know.

Obviously, I'll replace the wire when I get a new one. Just thought maybe this might be the cause of my problem.

While I have the carb off, I thought I'd try to replace the impulse line (PM?). I've got the top shroud/cover off. Anything short of removing the gas tank can I do to make access easier? Someone here said just to use my surgical skills and hemostats. Don't know if I can.

Lastly, while I have the carb off, I thought I'd take both side covers off to check on the status of the rubber membranes. They ARE right below the covers aren't they? I'd like to buy another kit. Are AMs good enough?

P.S. I posted these same questions in my Stihl 038 Woes thread in the chainsaw section.

Edit: Disregard the Impulse line question I did get it changed. Both the impulse and fuel lines were a little softer than the new ones I replaced. I don't think they failed by collapsing, but it didn't hurt to rule them out by changing.

Looks great Mark. I see you have the millennial anti theft tranny in that truck.:innocent:
Easy there, I'm technically a millennial, been driving stick and starting off in second since I could push a clutch in.
Now my wife in the other hand....

Johnny Cash came over to hunt moose in Newfoundland-Labrador in the 60's. I wonder if they gave him any trouble at the border?View attachment 1153321View attachment 1153322
Little known Johnny Cash story....... decades ago , Marty Stuart nervously asked John for Cindy's hand in marriage. At the time John wasn't very fond of Marty hence Marty being nervous. The story goes something like this...... " So I knew I (Marty) had to do the right thing and ask, so I mustered all the courage I had and walked up to him and asked. He paused for what felt like an eternity and then looked down at me from way up there and said the words that are forever burned into my brain. John said " I reckon you're both of marryin' age so I can't stop you but if you ever hurt my daughter, I'll kill you!" And I believed every single word!"

Oddly, the relationship with Cindy failed, but through it John came to have a deep friendship with Marty from then on even hiring him as his guitar player for a while, and later they bought property beside each other to make visiting easier.
There is another story with a different daughter and I think Ricky van Shelton but it's fuzzy right now. Maybe another time.

John was gracious enough to sign mine and my brothers guitar when he was here at the "little Nashville opry" years ago in Nashville Indiana. Just a simple treasure of mine.

Ok laughs on me. I read Johnny Carson instead of Johnny Cash. It made a whole lot more sense when I went back to read it again. Pretty sure Johnny Carson didn't tower over Marty and threaten him. :surprised3::dumb2:
