I like my tdi, but that's a stretch even for me lol..
What are the details of your TDI? I've got a 2000 Jetta TDI with 330k on her. I love the thing for a work car but that's as far as she goes for me!
A worthy effort! My leather work is generally in the utility category... lots of sheaths! Axes, hatchets, ditch bank blade, brush axe, knives.... a few accessories like a money clip and a pouch for holding coins while on bicycle trips. The leather working and sheath adventure started with replacing those on my Boy Scout axe, hatchet and sheath knives. All those sheaths were in horrible condition after almost 50 years and some mishaps (e.g., a hunting buddy chopped without removing the sheath!) I readily admit that it took three tries making the first sheath to get one with which I was happy... it was for the Scout Plumb hatchet. It covers the entire head, slips over the handle, and secures with a snapped flap. It took some playing around to get the welt and creases correct and get the saddle stitches even and straight. I enjoy it too! Show some more!
A worthy effort it is! Every tool I have is begging for a leather sheath now

I made another this morning of a lighter brown color. I made 2 more but the dye is still too wet. I realized too late that riveting too wet squishes the leather out around the rivets instead of holding form. Always learning here.

I see that your mill uses cast iron wheels for the saw blade. 👍 Way to keep this thread on subject.:D

2001, 248k miles,11mm pump, .230 injectors, bew lift pump, burpod tune, 31psi, 80mg stroke max fuel, pd 150 intake, race pipe, egr/asv deleted, 2.25" piping, godspeed smic, 2.5" stainless exhaust stage 2 southbend endurance clutch. Should be right around 180hp 325lb ft torque. Basically limited by the rods bending, so fuel/torque was limited in the tune. Normal driving returns 47-48 mpg. Although this last tune he managed to clean up some smoking issues with medium to heavy throttle applications. 528 miles @1/4 tank, expecting 50-52 mpg. Not a fast car, but world's better then it was before in the power department.

My tools begged for sheaths or new sheaths too! Funny how they gang up on ya isn't it? 😉

That's right, is that uncommon?

:surprised3: Nice! I started planning a build when I picked mine up as it had a bad head gasket but ended up staying stock. Timing belt and all the goodies at 307k so I've got a while before I open it back up. 44mpg in the winter and 47 in the summer here.

The ALH's are nearly bulletproof in stock form and are a dime a dozen around here. They're just really really rusty.

Since this is the firewood thread...here's a sheath I made for one of my firewooding utensil since it's too wet to do much else. I have 4 more to make today, then another 4 or 5 to make when I hang the rest of my axe heads. I still need to stain then burnish the edges, but these are utilitarian axes and sheaths, not made for adorning walls.

Leatherworking is quickly becoming a favorite hobby.

Really nice work!! I would like to get into leather work myself but don’t know if I still have the passion for it. :-(
Edit: energy for it :)

Well to continue with the "Other Stuff" theme, I received my Lovejoy coupling from a vendor on ebay. Suppose to be a Lovejoy or Revco brand.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/196244886860

Instead it has MD Inc hand etched on it and appears to be of Chinese quality. Seller doesn't accept returns. I didn't want a piece of junk on my splitter flying apart.
Go to a bearing supply store for one. Bearing headquarters in Alton will have it.

Actually, the guy was a top notch guy. He sent three messages through ebay within an hour of my first contacting him. He said he sells several brands that have been long in service by others. Bottom line, since I wanted a Lovejoy brand, he's sending one, NC. Told me to keep the other as a spare. He restored my faith in ebay sellers.

Most are fairly decent to deal with, provided you're not a jerk about whatever happened. I'm glad he made it right fot you.

Really wanted a wagon. guy I work with was selling this one for a very good price, and it's originally a southwestern car so virtually zero rust on it. It's on its second timing belt so I have some time till it needs done again. He took good care of it, but isn't a car guy. I'm pretty happy with how it is right now. I had other plans to build an alh/bhw (or was it brm?) Hybrid engine, cam and ported head, .300 injectors and a gtd 2060 vklr turbo. But that's on hold till the shop is done and the crew cab is on the road. I'll pick stuff up for it here and there.
We have plenty of tdi's around here too, but like you say rot pigs galore.
This one is my second vw diesel, I had an 86 jetta turbo diesel. Really, really, liked that car. Can't remember the size, but it had a slightly bigger turbo and some pump mods. Drove the crud out of it. Basically got rid of it because of rust and it was getting pretty worn out. Darn near wouldn't start below 50*f without being plugged in. Fun car, religious 50 mpg. Sold the head, turbo, and injectors to some kid with a 1.6 na diesel. Guess he had big plans for power. Never did hear how he made out with it. Basically got my money out of the car parting it out and scrapping it.

I always thought the Savage fox was stamped but what do you think about the Betetta?

That Beretta looks like my al2. Won it off my dad at a block shoot. Last shoot the club always does winner takes all. I was running cards so I didn't shoot all day. Wasn't a lot of us there, so we all agreed everyone would shoot if they wanted to, and everyone would get to see each card during judging under the magnifier. Dad said (jokingly) said if I won I could have the gun. By flat out dumb luck, I had a BB hit dead center of the X. Dad forked the Beretta over and I gave the club the money
Don't mind the shell catcher on it, shoot trap and doubles with it. No one likes getting pelted with a shell shooting trap, but for whatever reason no one seems to care shooting doubles.
