After a year of reading Saw Troll's posts about short bars I decided to swap the 20" bar on my Husky 350 to a 16". I cut a cord of white oak with it today and I have to say, he was right. This tree had lots of limbs and the short bar made things a lot easier working around and in the limbs. The saw also cut a touch faster and didn't bog down. The other benefit is it keeps me from getting lazy :monkey: when I get to the larger wood that 16" bar reminds me to put it away and pick up the 440. Thanks Saw Troll

My 350 came with an 18" B/C and I pulled it off and swapped on the 16 before I put fuel in it for the first time. Sure like the way it handles this way!

To each his own but I like the handiness of short bars also. The bigger the displacement of my saw, the bigger bar it wears in an increment that I feel balances the saw best for me. The longest I use regularly is 30" and that's on an 088. I have longer bars but only use them when necessary. Again, because the shorter ones are more handy for me and I don't care for a nose heavy saw at all.

That 350/16 combo is very handy. I sure wouldn't mind having one.

I don't own anything bigger than an 18" bar right now. With just firewood cutting, why lug the extra weight? It's very rare for me to have to cut from both sides.

Big bars definitely have their place, but on big saws (70 cc and up land) for big trees.

Done that with my MS260 ,16 inch for normal stuff but drop to 13 inch if there is a lot of smaller stuff, it's a delight to handle with the shorter bar.
(Use the 372xp for anything big)

That would be an interesting conversation with the dealer, its all big bars around here. The only 13" bars I have seen here are for chainsaw carving with those tiny noses, not sure what they are called. With the 16" bar my 350 is almost as handy as the 170 but with more power. I'm still grinning, its quite an improvement!

In this area of scotland, before harvesters became the norm, many of the cutters used Husky 254xp's with a 13" bar when cutting pulpwood for increased speed and manouverability.

You did well, short bars are cool, but not the 13" ones that are standard here on 50cc saws - 15-16" often is the best choise on those.....

Thanks for the kind words!!! :) :)

I switched bars on my 488 from a stock 20" to a 16", I like it much better and I also noticed that while limbing with the shorter bar it is a lot less pron to derailing the chain on small limbs.

use a 5100 with a 16" and a 7900 with a 20",I cut all hardwood and this combo works really nice.
a 350 husky with a 16" seems like a nice setup too.

I run an 18" on the 5100, 24" on the 7900 and they work well and balance correctly for my personal preference/needs.

Going to 14s on my 210 and Pull-on after I get caught up from Christmas.
(Not quite 13", but should be interesting experiment)

I run the 16" on the 026 and now on the 350. The 440 wears a 24" and that length is perfect for my needs. I ran the 350 some more today, I'm still grinning! :chainsaw:

LOL...I did the same thing with my 361. A smaller bar just makes sense a lot of the time. And theres still the 660 with the 36" for the serious work.
Hmmmm...better not advertise this too much though. We'll get kicked out of the "Left Coast Run The Biggest Damn Bar That You Can Fit On The Saw Regardless Of Whether You Really Need To" club. :buttkick:
Merry Christmas to you and yours. Bob

Merry Christmas Bob! Talk about :buttkick: I started limbing the oaks in the slash pile with the 440. After the first tank of gas my arms were ready to fall off and it dawned on me that I had the 350 in the truck with the new bar and chain. I guess there is a place for everything. I keep eying the 660 at the dealer, maybe that would keep me from getting booted from the West Coast club :monkey:

LOL!!
I would for sure! My 066 only runs a 28" and the 088 a 30"! I guess when I get my 090 I can move up to a 36".;)
