I just recently bought a husky 372xp, and I am interested in giving it some more power (not that its lacking much). I was thinking a big bore kit and a ported muffler perhaps. Anything else I should think about? I have done some reading on here and it seems that people disagree about the manufacturer of the piston and cylinder kits. Just looking for some advice. Thanks in advance.

A muffler mod is by far the most cost-effective way.

Regarding the BB kits, I am not even sure it increases the power at all, without extensive work by someone who knows what to do.....

Yeah a woods port is the next step after the muffler mod. A mild woods port usually will not harm the durability of the saw at all, if done right. Why do you think all of Brad's saws are "Snellerized"? :chainsaw:

I would do the muffler mod first, then if you still want more contact a performance builder. Do some research and you will find out who they are

Once you've had a taste of a good woods ported saw, there's no going back. Seriously. It makes a huge difference if done right. I don't mess with my old saws, but all of my newer saws that I actually use are all ported.

Have you ever had a saw you ported that came out with very little gain, or even less performance?

I am also interested in a woods ported 372xp, but I haven't a clue who to talk to or what to ask for. I am weighing this against waiting for feedback on the 575xpNE(5.9hp) model. I want to end up with a powerful beast that is reliable.

You can really make them run with the 50mm piston. The first thing I would do is find a black coil and do a muffler mod, those are two very big gains and easy to do.

Maybe I've been lucky, but no I haven't. I've only messed with pro Stihl saws though. I understand some, ie Dolmars, do not respond as well. I take that to mean that their already tuned pretty agressively. I still shake my head when I see a saw that was ported by a "builder" and it's not much more than stock. That's what drove me to start doing my own. I'm a rookie though. Give me enough time and I'll likely screw one up. Don't take me wrong here. There are good builders out there. I'm not out to bash all the saw builders. I am out to encourage anyone with the patience and ability to try it themselves.

My 260, 361, and 460 are all pretty much built the same way. They all have great torque and they pull 15,500, 15,100, and 15,000 RPMs respectively. My 066 RL turns 14,300 but I think there's more in it. I think it would benefit from some more intake duration.

Black coil?? Im a newb at this kind of stuff ... if you havent noticed. Is there an individual who I can buy all this stuff from who can give me a little direction along the way? Things like the muffler mods and coils and porting?

Also, do people do ported BB kits? Does that make a bigger difference?

And BTW i bought the saw "lightly used" so its not brand new

As a rule of thumb, OEM parts are better than aftermarket. The juy is still out on the BB kits. They have improved in the last year though. Still, most seem to say that a modded OEM cylinder will have equal or better power than the BB kit. I don't know this first hand but have searched it out a little. I was most interested in a Stihl 660 BB kit. The biggest hurdle there is getting the compression up due to a large combustion chamber.

The blue coil has a rev limiter, the black is unlimited. You just need to pull the starter cover and see what color it is. I don't like rev limiters, many saws have died a horrible death because of them, they will tune out like its four stroking and still be very lean.

Something else you should do is cut the limiter tabs off of the H and L jet screws on the carb.

There are far less gain to be had from porting the strato engines, like the 575xp and MS441 (the copy - lol).
