Going through my 038 Magnum. Has the Bing carb, 48A 101A. Figure it needs a kit, but not sure which one. Do all Bing 48 series carbs use the same rebuild kits? If so, that makes it easy. If not, I need more help...

My options -

-Stihl 1119 007 1066 - $43 on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Stihl-Carb-...704999?hash=item2ef8070427:g:BBIAAOSwEzxYOTeO

-Oregon 49-868 - $11.50 on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Oregon-49-8...271340?hash=item4d566a086c:g:8a4AAOSwYXVY0rxO

-BBT kit - $8 on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-BBT-CAR...703775?hash=item27cd65785f:g:Ww4AAMXQuCdTiFDg - this is listed as a replacement for the 1119 007 1062

Seems to be a difference between Stihl 1119 007 1062 and Stihl 1119 007 1066 -- the 1062 seems to be more plentiful and less expensive, the 1066 kits are quit expensive.

Anyone have any input?

Thanks!

Scott

I may be wrong but I think the stihl Bing kits differ as to how complete the parts sets are?

I know everyone loves the Bing but I've found the Tilliston carbs run about the same. When I switched back and forth on one of my 038S 038M conversions they even tuned Hi/Lo the same ( 1 1/4). Parts are lots cheaper for the Tillistons. Note the early 038 had a smaller venturi than the later super and magnum carbs.

Had a problem once with a Stihl Bing kit, they came in a plastic {snap} box, and someone else {tech} had swapped in the incorrect circuit plate gasket.
Luckily, the customer had saved his old gasket, so it came out fine.
Otherwise, the kits were the same.

Harley, I know some kits do not have the metering parts, just the rubber and screen (I think). I can't remember the sources?

Looked in the IPL (that's where I should have started) and confirmed what you're saying -- the 1062 kits just have the gaskets and diaphragms and the 1066 kits have the strainer, inlet needle, and inlet control lever.

Some of the less expensive kits have all the necessary bits. Here's one for $2.21 from Hong Kong that's listed as a replacement for 1062, but it should be a 1066. http://www.ebay.com/itm/BING-48-Car...428727?hash=item3d034db2b7:g:jKEAAOSwHjNV9o46

So, the question now is the $40 Stihl kit that much better than the $2 Chinese kit...
