064 cylinder salvagable?

howdy guys
been slowly putting together an 064 project for the past year or so. almost done but im looking at the old cylinder again to make sure its not savable.

spark plug threads are gone, four little chips on one transfers edge, around the other transfer got wear on cylinder wall, another chip on the intake and some odd little wear mark near the exhaust.

not sure if the pistons original, but when i drop it into the cylinder with the plug in it goes down nice and slow.

havent posted in awhile and its that time a year again. hope you guys cutting wood.

im no expert but for what places like hl charge for a cylinder piston kit
why not just put a new aftermarket kit in it, then you know exactly what you have, put a big bore kit in it and you got a bit more power to boot

how do re-bevel edges?

i was thinking of having this saw sent in for a woods porting? would they port this cylinder?

A dremel like tool and a abrasive wheel will do it, have saved many cylinders with far more damage, polish the cylinder walls a bit more with 240 grit machine paper, no need to go to ultra fine paper for a plated cylinder.

Myself and most people on this forum will disagree with this. Oem is bar the best. Some AM cylinders are decent but still a step down.

For beveling I use a diamond ball bit. Amazon has them for cheap. You could even go at it with sand paper but that takes some time.

Got this 357 jug on a carcass I got in a lot. Some ham hand used a screwdriver or the like as a piston stop.

I think it cleaned up pretty good. Just a tad more cleanup and finishing after this and matching the port volume on the intake side and she should do fine when I do a ground up re-build on the rest of the saw this winter.

i have no experience using a dremel inside a cylinder.. think my friend jeff has one. maybe ill practice on some junk cylinders i got. any good videos on here?

gee wiz.. i sure would hate to damage the jug.

The jug is already damaged. It can't be used as it is.
howd you get that chip out? did you have to widen the port height?
Yup, only as far as I had to to remove the damage. Once I delete the base gasket it shouldn't be a significant amount, but if the compression sucks and it lacks torque I know a guy I can send it to that would probably cut the base and band for me if I decide I want to go that far.
