Confused.... as I was told that I can keep using it on the newer filters from a trusted Still Tech. The data sheet of the CRC non Chlorinated Spray can Brake Cleaner that I use shows no info for PH as with most cans with a Google search. I have not seen special cleaners you have mentioned to clean the new filters or Stilh might be marketing them heavy for sales. Point me to some. Some might just use liquid dish soap and water and dry it out. Cheers, Patrick

https://www.stihl.com/STIHL-power-t...s/21098-63709/Varioclean-special-cleaner.aspxThis is what they claim you need to use. I haven't gotten any yet. Supposedly it breaks down the saw dust and oil, but won't damage the air filter media.

I thought I posted this before. Didn't see it. Cleaning instructions from the 400cm manual. I have no idea of the k&n cleaner is compatible or not, it always seemed like an acid based cleaner. I'd have to find the data sheet to see if it's compatible.

Hello friends, that's right, I already know about the filter update, I would very much like to change my old models for new models since not only the air filter has been changed but also other parts and details that improve the behavior of these Husqvarna. But I don't know how to explain this to my wife🤣. As for the HD2 filter, I like it, it's easy to wash. It mounts on both the 241c and 400. I have only seen the difference in color. At ms 241 it is black, at ms 400 white. Do you know if there is a difference in the number of meshes or microns? or is it just the color? In any case, white is easier to check and wash since you can better identify dirt. To clean these types of filters, I first blow them with compressed air slot by slot from the outside in, then repeat the process from the inside out. Once blown, I spray it with a special K&N brand filter cleaner, let it sit for a few seconds and rinse it with pressure water. Finally, I blew again with compressed air, finishing from the inside out. Before I put the filter in the machine, I make sure it's dry and put silicone grease on the gasket. This silicone grease prevents the entry of dust and the gasket itself deforms or degrades. About the K&N filter cleaner, I think it's an ammonia based product because of the smell, just like the Stihl cleaner.
You wouldn't have to buy the new models, I'll look and see if I still have the part number for the kit. Took about 10 minutes to install, much better then the old filter set up. The kit was around $40.00 when I got the last one.

Price has gone up a little bit, I got mine through a local dealer. They have the husqvarna part number listed on the website.

Sorry had to run you through Google translate.
I can't remember when, but they recently cam out with an upgraded filter and filter housing. I think it was for the 2020 or 2021 models. There is a kit you can buy to upgrade the factory filters.
Having said this, aside from a very few new and updated stihl models, the first modification most make is to get a different (aftermarket) air filter set up for their stihls. Stihl has long been known for poor air filtration.
The ms400c has taken the air injection tech from husqvarna and added a reasonably decent airfilter. I'm not 100% sold on it as they claim the filter needs a special cleaner to clean it properly. I'll likely look to the aftermarket for alternative filters when the time comes.
I recently went with the Red Beard/WCS clamp-on filter on my 400. I'm a fan of foam filters, like the combo of flow and protection. They're a PITA to clean, but you can get away with much longer cleaning intervals IMO.

The 400 does filter pretty well compared to my older Stihls or my 500i. All of those run Max-flows, the 500i in particular was bad about clogging up the pleating and then pulling fines in.

I'll be switching over to the red beard set up sooner or later as well. I run uni tripple stage filters on all my 1/5 scale rc. So cleaning foam filters isn't really a bother to me.

@sean donato Looked the Stihl cleaner up on line. All listings that I saw were in Canada, Europe or Australia. Did not see a USA distributor online. I'll check with my local dealers.

Yes I checked my Stihl 500i manual and shows the same verbiage as the 400C-M on cleaning the air filter. Checked my 261C-M Ver2 manual and also says use the special cleaner OR dish soap.
