Picked up the 261 about 3 years ago, partly tour it apart and never finished.
Piston and cylinder ruined, have aftermarket from Bailey's.

Questions

Can I replace the crank seals without splitting the case? I was going to split it, till I read how difficult that can be; don't have a splitting tool. If it has to split, I'll just have someone do it. Currently just needs cleaned and handle removed if I have to split.

Is the coil wire replaceable without replacing the coil?

The only IPL I can find for the 261 does not give descriptions of the parts, just numbers. Is there an IPL with better descriptions someone can refer me to?

Thanks

James

I would think you can replace seals with out going into case.
Does it have the oil pump on a cover with like 4 screws?

Most plug wires screw into coil.

I may have IPL at work, will check tomorrow.
Some of husky IPL are kinda sad.

Come on you Husky guys, help the guy out.

This site has IPL, and yes you can replace seals. http://www.jonsered.ws/HIPL.htm

Clutch side is dead easy as its on oil pump.
Hardest thing about flywheel side will be getting old
seal out. You don't want to scratch crankshaft where
oil seal contacts shaft. Make sure and notice how deep
the old seal sets in case, am not sure if seal has a depth stop
in case. You also want to make sure seal is set in as not to rub
on nose of FW. After seal is in, use a marker on nose of FW
Set FW on shaft, push down on FW and turn FW by hand.
Pull FW back off and see if any of the marker has rubbed
off on seal. If so seal needs to go in a little deeper.

I did a thread a couple years back, "The official Husky 261 to 262XP conversion thread" that covers all the things that need to be done to make this happen. Parts prices might have changed a bit.

Thanks TT, I don't know how to do the link thing.
