My FIL has a 262 that he had an issue with and bought a golf piston off ebay and put it in as well as a new oem carb. I didn't even know he had one...[emoji22]He ran it twice for about an hour each and said it ran good. Then he couldn't get it started. I pulled the muffler and found this.

I vac and pressure checked the saw and it's tight.
I yanked the jug and

Only thing I can think of is the cylinder already had transfer and he didn't clean it up and it trashed this piston quick????
Bought a meteor piston kit for it from Chris at sawsalvage.com.
I cleaned up the cylinder this morning and there are a couple very small score marks just below the exhaust port.

Whatcha all think?
I hate to lose an oem jug for this saw.
Is this going to be an issue?

That ain't gonna hurt a thing Dan.

Hand sand the port edges.........then stuff some Scotchbrite in there on a drill somehow and polish the hell out of it.
Great! Ok what do I use, like 120 grit on the port edges?

I wrapped scotchbrite a few times around a 1-1/4" paddle bit and went easy at first but it worked great!

Is it just me or is the last picture thru the plating just under the intake port? Not that it wouldnt run that way for a long time.
I think you mean exhaust port, and yes there are a couple small nicks through the plating I was concerned with.

I thought i saw a small patch of plating gone and all shined up. If they are little scratch no worries. It will run. When rebuilding check all tollerances, piston to cyl clearance ring gap and squish. I have seen oversize undersize out of round and many other oopies from aftermarket and some from oem.

Thanks for the tips! Must have been the lighting. Plating looks good. Working on the port edges now.

Thanks Matt. I've got to come see your shop some time. I'm only about an hour from you.

Just checked squish I've got .009 with no gasket. Stock gasket is .029 The only gasket material I've got is .021 trying to think of something to use... Beer can is only .003 maybe I'll run and try to find some thinner gasket material.
Any ideas?
