288 xp catatrophic breakage

so i was out noodling block of poplar with my heavily modded 288 and it came to a sudden and definite halt this afternoon. that noise just make you cringe.....:jawdrop:
so i just took it apart..... the 066 domed piston just couldnt take the heat.... broke above and below the top ring, and both rings.... the jug is ok, thank god, time to start over with a higher quality piston.... meteor the time insted of nwp. will try and post pics tomorrow!!!

Are you going to roll with a 288 Meteor piston? What kind of numbers did you put into the jug?

i going to try another 066 piston this time leave more above the ring... .090" just wasnt enough... i never degreed the jug.... maybe the ring hung up in the exhaust port???? the porting was a little wide for the 066 piston if memory serves....

D'oh!! Glad you save the jug. I'd love to have mine heated up, but I can't seem to keep away from the vintage stuff...
