This is what I been trying to figure out on my 2186. So you can just change the seal without splitting the case?

If the bearing/seal setup is the same as the 390's than yes you can just change the seal without splitting the case.

Ignore the picture in the IPL. The seal goes between the ID of the outer race and the OD of the inner race, just like many other saws. It will pop right out once you remove the clutch and oil pump.

Same exact saw.

Now I know what saw to keep my eyes open for in that color.
I was surprised at how easy the seal came out of the bearing. I'm not a huge fan of the setup however. Not only is it proprietary, the seal doesn't ride the crank.

Actually, the 2186 is a 385, which is the same as a 390 minus P&C and clutch. A 2188 is a 390.
