I've had the oppurtunity to grab my first 440 with miscellaneous parts missing from the saw. When I remove the clutch I find the oiler along with the worm gear. My question, did all 440's come with a "bearing spacer"?

What is the purpose of the "bearing spacer"? I know that my 310 and 039 don't have this item between the clamshell engine and oiler.

Will someone explain to me why a bearing spacer is used? I don't see them on 660, 360, other pro saws...
