So I have a line on a used 660 in bran new condition(one season of ice fishing, has never seen any wood) power head only for $600, I really do not need this big of a saw, looking for something to run a 32" bar to cut 6-8 soft trees that are 30"-40" diameter. from most of my searching on here people prefer the 440/460 (or like older models) problem is all the searching, i can't find a 044/046/440/441/460 is good shape less than $700 almost seems like a no brainier to me almost... I have my 034S and ms192 for the small stuff...what are your thoughts??

I am testing a 461R and a 660R right now.

so the other day I started cutting with the 461 and a 28" tsumura. I'm going along thinking man this is a nice setup. So figured I'd try the 28" tsumura on the 660. Granted the 660 is a bit heavier. However the shear power it has over the 461 is so addicting that I used the 660 for the rest of the day.

The 461 is a nice smooth fast reving saw. Lots of chain speed. I view it as a corvette. Now the 660, granted I have a dp muff cover on it and have a 8pin sprocket, is like like a nascar car. It's a animal, a beast. You rev it and it just puts a smile of F U all over your face. ...at least vs the 461. The 461 may be lighter and it mayor may not be smoother on the revs. But the 660 is a torque monster, it'll do the jobs the461 just won't or can't. They simply are completely different saws.

I'm not saying not to get the 660, that is a great price, and the above comments let you know they can be beasts (w/dp cover).

That said, if you prefer a lighter saw, they are also out there. Just picked up a 044 w/24" b/c on ebay for $435 shipped, and before that a 046 powerhead on this site for $450. Neither saw was in pristine condition, both needed some minor work, but mechanically they were both in great shape.

I have run some ported 660s at the GTG and they are awesome, but so was the ported 460, and it is a lot lighter.

However, if you plan to cut 40" trees on a regular basis, the 660 may just be the ticket.

For the price you cant beat it..i spend so much trigger time on saws that sometimes at the end of the week the sound of a saw annoys me , that said , i own both and my 461R was worked over by dan henry and it will hand it to a dual port 660 with 28" bars , unless you cut big wood ALL the time or you just like to make your neighbors think you have a bigger crank than them a 461 will do just fine and certainly cut some big wood , i havent ran a 32 on my 461 yet but i have no doubts it would pull it and maybe even 36 in a pinch..but for the price you can pick up that 660 for hell ya why not, but if you were starting from scratch id take a 461 over a 660 unless you were into the big stuff on the regular..my opinion

Get the 660 for sure its a good deal and it's a very reliable saw. Make sure you open up the muffler.
