was just wondering,
for a few years in aus + nz petrol stations have been selling 98 octane (or rated octane) petrol along with 96 and 91, does usa have "botuique" (take that you bogans) petrol as well?

According to the nice little brochures at the servos it's more refined, makes less pollution and gets better mileage.

surely u need to increase compression to take advantage of the octane rating?

was really just wondering if they sold that stuff in usa too though.

Yeah what he said.

The octane rating you guys use in oz is a RON number I believe, ours here in the states is an (R+M)/2 number and it rates the same fuel at a lower rating. So your 98 RON octane is about the same as our 93 (R+M)/2 octane which is available at most stations in the U.S.. We have some stations that serve up 98 (R+M)/2 octane at the pump and a few that even carry 100 or 104 straight out of the tap.
