Ive read on this site that The Stihl 038 was a good saw, but wondered about the model above, and the husky 55.

Grab the 038 if you can its a really good saw,the Husky is an alright saw but of lesser quality but works well for a firewood or home owner saw for around the yard. IMO If you don`t want the saw yourself I for one would buy it and pay you for your trouble. Pioneerguy600

+1 Grab the 038. Its one hell of a steal. Now I don't know bout the Husky's being lesser quality though. It just all depends on the person.

the 038 is one of the best all around saws ever made,but its a bit heavy and slower than the more modern saws.Im a Stihl fan,but the Husky 55 with a 16inch bar and 3/8 chain is a way better saw than a 290.More chain speed and noticably lighter,and better balanced.
