how are these saws for power to weight? are they reliable? any common problems? would it compare to a 372?:chainsaw:

Legendary saw, lots of power, its a heavy saw though. It's definitely got more grunt than a 372 but not as good AV. Really great saw, buy it if its a good deal.

I am building up a 181 which is essentially a 288, just a smaller bore. I own a 372 and the 181 is heavier for sure. I am having a time getting this beast back to running, it has some mucho compression, I keep pulling the rope out! I hope to have it all running good in a week or two. I am looking for a good condition 288 sprocket cover and chain brake if anyone has one! I think a 288 would be a good addition for any chainsaw lover!

I just bought one that is new, never had gas or oil in the tanks. I cant decide whether to gas it and enjoy it or save it or what??? Every time I pick it up I wanna gas it up and stick it in the wood.

It will make the 372 run and hid. I would gas it up and run the s*** out of it.

I keep pulling the rope out!

I too had this problem for a while with mine. Got mine from ebay for $200, but it needed a carb kit and a fuel line. Finally got a wrap handle on mine and a new chain. I need to do some more carb tuning but she's a great saw.

When I was thinning out the fleet of saws in the garage, people on here talked me into keeping mine, so I did and haven't looked back yet. I had two, sold one, and kept one.

Only problem that I have had is the older style chainbrake bands are hard to find, but they have new ones that are stil OEM, so it's not relevent. Leaky gas and oil caps, mostly from age, and that's about it. Great saw. Would recommend.

And last but not least, yes it's heavy, but if you are running an over 85cc saw, you're in pretty good shape, yes this is heavy, but it won't break you...
