I bought my house in Denver last year in June, and the apple tree in front had not bloomed for lack of water (along with the lawn and all the plants that were half-dead!). This year, it is blooming quite nicely. We had a snow storm just before the blooms opened, but I covered the tree in plastic and the blooms survived. Now, some of the blooms have already finished and we are having an "unseasonable" (ha ha) cold snap. I have again covered the tree, but I don't really know what I am doing here. What are the rules for protecting fruit trees from snow and cold weather?

Is there seasonable weather in Denver? I live here also and you are following the right steps. Cover it with blankets, towels or old sheets. Athough plastic will hold heat in better. Good luck, I am in the same boat.
