November 7, 2008:
Kelly Byrne Sterling, New York (WSYR-TV) - The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a suspect they say was living inside a man’s camper and threatened the owner with an axe.

On November 1, a man found the suspect inside his camper at a hunting camp located off of Short Cut Road in the town of Sterling.

Kelly Byrne, 34, formerly of 13885 Humphrey Road in Sterling has been identified as the suspect.

The sheriff’s office says Byrne got out of the camper with an axe, threatened the property owner and damaged his pick-up truck with the axe.

Byrne then allegedly grabbed some belongings from inside the camper and walked away.

State Police searched the area with a helicopter, but Byrne could not be found. The axe was returned to the camper the next day, so Byrne is not believed to be armed.

The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office does not know where Byrne is. Arrest warrants have been issued for the following charges:

- Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd degree (felony)
- Criminal Mischief in the 3rd degree (felony)
- Menacing in the 2nd degree (misdemeanor)
- Criminal Trespass in the 3rd degree (misdemeanor)

Byrne is known to hitchhike according to the sheriff.
