Has anybody tried to put a sealed bearing from a 575 into a 372 to elimanate the o-ring/seal? I have a few of these saws tore down at the time and it looks as if it might work.

Depends on how old these 575 carcasses are that you're pulling the bearing from. There was a run of those 575 PTO side bearings that were garbage. Even now the integrated seal has a habit of failing much earlier than a conventional separate seal. The 576 has a re-designed setup and for good reason. I would stick with the separate seal on the 372. It has a very low failure rate.
Reason I ask, my 372 had a loose oil pump and the clutch hit it and broke the seal holder off the main case!!!
Well in that case, go for it. You don't have much to lose there.
