Today i got some Corsican Pine as it was blown over in our 90mph gales we had here last week. I know Corsican Pine is a good timber tree but whats the timber good for?

Now how do i go about milling it to get good results? (have Alaskan MK3 on MS660) Is this the right approch or do some steps need modifying?

1. Get good log on some equal sized log to prop it up off the ground
2. Use a spirit level to get a 2x12 level for the top cut. Attach bits of wood under it until level.
3.Attach 2x12 as a guide for top cut, screw it down into the pine or into the end.
4. Set up mill to required depth
5.Cut the top cut.
6. Live saw from the level top cut to desired board sizes

Thanks for any help i really want to make a good job of this as i could get a lot more wood from the tree guys if i do.

If you have broadband access, there are a few good videos to watch on this site:
Granberg How-To Video's
These should give you the basics of how a chainsaw mill (csm) works.

What diameter are the logs? That might help determine the best way to get started.

small stuff 15-18"
Medum stuff 18-24"
Big stuff 24-36"

range betweem 3 and 4 foot logs. I just couldn't lift any longer into the back of my van.

I'm d/l the video now. Thanks a lot
