It's me again. Another question - I looked at a Raywood this week that the owner wanted to remove because it had a black fungus that the UC Davis website said was absorbed through the roots causing crown die-back. The neighbor had several of theirs removed for the same problem. The website said that Raywoods shouldn't be planted north of Sacramento because of this fungus. (They're everywhere.)

What is this fungus and it's nature. Can someone send me a link. Google didn't help.

Thanx

Can you come up with more specifics? I also googled "black fungus on Raywood" and came up with Oak root fungus (Armallaria) but it said the Raywood was resistant.

Raywood is Zone 5 to 8 so I would think that north of Sac might be pushing the envelope in some areas but not all.

Did you go on the UC Davis website and try to find out what fungus they are referring to?

Good luck and keep us posted.

Sylvia
