Boric acid oil treatment of alloy.

I ran across some information about dissolving powered Boric acid in water, then adding it to motor oil and heating it to at least 170 degrees. The Boric crystals then bond to the metal, hardening it and greatly reducing friction. This came from a motor-scooter forum, they are four strokes and it is used in place of regular oil. I'm wondering if saw parts were "cooked" in the hot oil mixture, wouldn't it work? There are motor oils that have Boron in them, but in very small amounts, some are warranty approved in new cars.

Running short of folks at work, OT sux.

I was thinking of saws like a Poulan 3400 with an unplated bore would be a good test bed.
The scoot guys play with 50cc 4 strokes, they said that noise is reduced, revs come easier, had to reset to a lower idle, mpg went up.
Some have tested it for over a 1000 miles.
 
How would you do it?

I recently got a 3400, haven't tore into it yet. How would you go about this treatment? The only oil that hits the unplated cylinder is mix oil.

edit: you mean pull the cylinder and cook it in the oil mixture? Referencing a four stroke, it gets bathed in the oil in the crankcase and subjected to constant contact. The stroke fuel would get sucked through the carb all the time, wouldn't that mess up the non metallic parts? I don't see how you could treat the two stroke the same way as a four stroke. Cook the cylinder for like weeks in a whatever, big pot full of car oil and the boron particles?

They used to advertise miracle engine rebuild in a can jazz, never tried it, that used molybdenum disulfide particles, same theory.

Why not just a small amount of teflon in the two stroke mix? And actually, that's another question, I haven't heard or read about using teflon at all when it comes to saws..too much potential for seal and gasket leaks?

Someone else who is a little more "saw rich" can try it out first....one of you guys out there with a garage full of runners and parts stuff.

Or in bar oil, for the bars and chains? Maybe keep them from wearing out so fast?

Hey, here's another thought

Look at the cylinders we have that have lost some of their plating in the bore....it wouldn't stick to the plating, but to the raw aluminum areas that have lost the plating, perhaps resurrect what would normally be a trashed out cylinder? Or marginal normal unplated pistons, sand sorta smooth again, then cook them?
 
FWIW boron is used in place of and with ZDDP in engine oils as part of the anti-wear additive package. (and it's also much more expensive)

Borate esters are used (predominately by Texaco/Chevron/Caltex) in gear oils in lieu of sulphur based extreme pressure additives in their EP/AW additive packages.

Lead and Tin napthanate were/are used by boutique oil blenders for exotic brews, again in concert with other compounds in race/high performance type engine oils.

Bottom line is many compounds can be used for anti-wear and extreme pressure use, but is isn't as simple as adding xxxxxxx and doing yyyyyy, the chemistry is s a little more complex than that, being very synergistic and pretty much beyond us mere mortals, unless you have a PhD in Chem, specialising in tribology.

I probably wouldn't, we use a product called 'GT85' in our (push) bike shop, which contains teflon, but it's notorious for destroying seals. For lubricating seals we use a silicone-based spray called 'Silicon Shine', by a company called Muc-Off. Super-slippery and comes in cherry-pop fragrance, the perfect gateway solvent for the budding abuser! lol
